I think it is only appropriate to speak of Windows 8. Windows 8/8.1 is the current Microsoft OS and we are talking about the next OS. I am sure that at this point of the development process of Windows 7, everyone was talking about what in Vista they wanted/didn't want. Even Microsoft itself appears to have given up on 8/8.1. But I think it is normal to compare the next OS to the current one. I, for one, want options and don't want a phone or tablet OS to be ported to the desktop. I want a real desktop OS, much like Windows 7 is. Much, if not most, of the things we like about Windows 8 could have been Windows 7 SP2.

I would like to see options that

Allow me to run the start screen as now, no taskbar on it
Allow Store Apps to run full screen (without the minimize and close buttons)
The option to not have Store Apps shown on the Taskbar when in Desktop mode

If there are options to allow these as the default and the price is cheap then I will upgrade

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that. Even if there is, they’ll have it default off and option to turn on.

Allow Store Apps to run full screen (without the minimize and close buttons)

I read that they may take the charms out as it is now and place all the items on it on the apps bar at the top. I’m hoping we’ll have an option to move it to other edges. I like it to the right side.

Has MS fixed the USB "eject" tool in the W8 series?

If not, then I would like to see a reliable USB "eject" tool in W9?
If that isn't possible, then I would like to see a "kill" button included on the "USB failed to eject" dialogue window.

Thanks for replies about store apps on taskbar

If they leave the option as now then no problems, but with the way they are bringing everything to the desktop now, not sure if this option will remain in 9

YES!! This^^^^ But that's up to the hardware vendors to get their new drivers to MS. I do agree that MS must make sure that the current drivers work with Win9. But that has to be a huge job!

What would I love to see in Win9??

Wow, that's hard to say for me at least.
    But here I go.

1 Better virus protection with defender. It's nice to have a built in AV but Defender must a top AV to keep up with other vendors.

2 Better Performance?? Win8 is very fast but for me an OS can't be fast enough.

3 When I have multiple files to copy/delete in a folder I want a “select all” feature! Yes.. a right click and one more click to select all of the files in a folder. Is that so hard! If there is a way let me know. I some times have the stupid! :)

    That's it for now.
    Peace out and hop on.

I bless the day MS released MSE when I was running 7. What a difference in system speed. On this old Acer anyway. I can’t remember which AV product I had, but I know it was free through my DSL ISP at the time and also don’t remember what came on the OEM machine with Vista. They were both top brands. What resource hogs they were! I dared not use the machine while they were scanning. Might as well chase turtles! I turned off their time task and ran scans when not using the machine.

I’ve had my fair share of viruses with all of them. None are 100% bullet proof, but luckily never had one that crippled my system. The point is that Defender IMO works just as well as the rest, it’s free, works at kernel level, and it works in the background so I can continue to use the machine. When another AV gives me all four of those, I’ll use it.

The automation of system maintenance with Chkdsk, Defrag, Defender, and other tasks in 8.x is another great feature. During the day when I go do other things, I’ll lock the machine and when I come back to use it I see it busy with something, By the time I sign back in it stops whatever it was doing. When I leave again it starts again where it left off.

Yes, time is valuable. Nothing can ever be quick enough. I noticed a big difference with 8 vs 7, again, on this older machine. I thought when approaching 8 I’d have to buy a new rig. > Not!

I’m not a “mouser”, but navigate to a folder in the left pane then Ctrl/A selects all the files. If desired, hold Ctrl key down and mouse pointer over a file in the right pane. After a few seconds will deselect individual files.
