I like learning new OS but really want reliable backward compatibility, even to 16 bit, but doubt that will happen.

I absolutely hate 8 and the new metro UI so I hope that they give us the option of disabling it; researching Windows 9 recently there is lots of speculation that disabling it will at least be an option so perhaps there is hope for 9. Other than the UI I hope that they add native support for more compression formats than just zip which has weak compression and lacks other options such as password protection. Mac (to a certain extent), Solaris, AIX, Unix, and Linux all support more formats than just zip. I hope that Microsoft joins the club.
For me:
- I'd like a version that is built for a desktop not a tablet.
- I also miss Aero; Win 8 looks to flat for me, no polish.
- I'm a Start menu guy so give it back with ability to customize it
That's what comes to mind for me.
Here's another one. When running any installer that puts a shortcut or folder in the Start Menu, on successful completion the system should ask you which category to put them in. Then give a dialog that lets you browse Start Menu Categories or create a new one.
Just reread this whole wish list, and have to admit that give or take a few percentage points approximately 99.9% of the wishes make little to no sense to me (just me. . .hopefully. . .)
Why did you even have to mention 8 is schizophrenic when it is not even the subject matter. . .What is it about people that for some reason just have to say something bad about win 8 when it isn't even the topic at hand. . .kado897, post: 34926, member: 26 said:
Isn't it? The mess that is W8 colours all our hopes for W9.Lee, post: 34927, member: 135 said:
You do know that you only speak for yourself. . .and of course others who think somewhat like you. . .:)kado897, post: 34928, member: 26 said:
