For what its worth, if I were to build a new desktop I would happily buy Windows 8 for it over 7. I'd be spending the money anyway so I'd get what I wanted.whs, post: 8919, member: 58 said:

Dito, until recently I was splitting my time between my 8 laptop and 7 desktop. Everything is running 8.1 now. Thank you Microsoft for my MVP and TechNet/MSDN SUB.Joan Archer, post: 8918, member: 14 said:![]()
There was no compelling reason that I upgraded from 7 to 8 on my desktop, other than I enjoy playing around with new software and I took advantage of the special introductory price for 8 Pro when it first came out. However, I still run 7 on my laptop and don't plan to upgrade it.
I am definitely sticking with 7 for a while. When 9 (or whatever it will be called) is released I'll re-evaluate the situation but as far as I'm concerned going from 7 to 8/8.1 is just a waste of money...
My R0.02...
Congratulations, Kerry (alphanumeric), for your Microsoft MVP badge. Way to go!![]()
Hi.
If somebody ask me what I'd like to see in Win 9, it's funny that what had come to my mind was having it like customizable android ROMs which can have various launchers and apps. Just thought of that because it currently my hobby with 4 android devices at hand.
Just a wild thought, anyway.

Hi Dave. A refers to the things in the wild? Then ignore the word, look at me.
Got two horns here. :P
I would like for Microsoft to return to the XP days of being more self-contained... like have it's pieces of software be good enough for people to use without having to seek-out third party stuff. Get some hype back about Windows itself.
I'm talking stuff like:
- Windows Photo Viewer (I think this is what it's currently called) doing animated gifs.
- Windows Movie Maker working great, just with more modern file type compatability or new features like overlaying images on top of the video etc.
- Windows Defender/Microsoft Security Essentials Suite being good enough to do-away with the need for a naggy third party anti virus program.
I mean we've finally gotten stuff like the modern 'reader' app on Win8 which means I don't have to fart around with Adobe Reader anymore. I'd just like the Desktop side to be competant as well.
All that is still available on 8.1. Or am I missing something.I'm talking stuff like:
