How do I get my Cut and Paste function to work properly

    Hi,

I had posted a topic on here previously about my Cut and Paste function, however this function seems to be selective.

I can use cut and paste using my mouse cursor to highlight on a sentence, copy then paste the highlighted words onto a document, no problem.

I can also do the same function on words on this forum.

This ability is no longer possible on a GPS forum that I'm a member of, it use to work but not now. On the odd occasion I can highlight two words and that's it, try again maybe 30 times and words cant be highlighted.

The only way I can copy the words is do a PrintScreen capture and write the words that I needed.

Also , Coastwatch fishing reports where I had employed Control + S and save as HTML, then open using Notepad, I can then keep what I wanted and discard the rest. This ability worked a few times, but sadly now , it sort of works but I don't get the fishing report details, just a whole lot of goblygook.

Would anyone know how I can resolve this?

    Regards,
    Bondy

Hi, it would help anyone looking at this to know
    a. which browser(s) you have tried - have you tried more than one?
    b. An example URL with which you have difficulty.

Sometimes I find I need to hit CTRL-C a couple of times on web pages. No idea why.

There is an interesting option- especially useful when the text is actually an image (so can't be cut and pasted) - that's on-screen OCR.

One free program I've tried is
    http://capture2text.sourceforge.net/
    - however I find its hotkey and mouse usage quirky and non-intuitive (= takes a bit of getting used to).

    Far better than
The only way I can copy the words is do a PrintScreen capture and write the words that I needed.

    Bondy,

As a workaround, print to pdf using the built-in MS print to pdf 'printer' and copy the words from there.

You should also go to your computer maker's website to download their latest display driver then install it [and check for any updated BIOS while you are there]. This might be irrelevant, it might be the fault of your browsers or the websites concerned but until you try it you will not know.

When you have reinstalled the display driver & re-tested, post a list of the applications in which the problem occurs & provide some web addresses of pages where the problem occurs [together with any explanation about which parts of the page misbehaved].

    dalchina,

I'm using Internet Explorer 11 as my web browser.

    http://www.coastwatch.com.au/
    http://www.coastwatch.com.au/fishing-reports
When you get to fishing reports , on my pc the mouse cursor will not highlight any words nor does the CTRL + C option work, Maybe the website I visit on occasions have disabled that ability from their side. Maybe it works for other people, but definitely not with me.

The other website is a GPS forum, same thing happens. I contacted one of the admins on the GPS forum I am with, he said no problem on his end, cut and paste works fine. I did not ask what browser he used.

I have not tried that method you mentioned. My computer is built from scatch, put it together myself some time ago.
I have the latest graphics drivers and sundry . There is no new BIOS updates for my pc as its getting a bit old. I only have the latest one that was available for my pc at the time.

Maybe I could try using Google Chrome and see if that makes any difference. I wont be using Windows Edge as a browser, I find it not very user friendly.

Hi, thanks - agreed with IE, first site has copy blocked. However...

If you were to use Firefox, AND you use the add-on

    THEN lo and behold:

and you can copy the text.

    Bondy,

Ignore my suggestion about the display driver. Dalchina has identified the cause [and I also found the same issue when looking at your fishing page in IE, Edge, Firefox].

I have now added the suggested add-on to Firefox and it does allows selection & copying on that fishing page.

    dalchina,

How cool is that. I'll give Firefox a go and see it works on my pc.

With reference to use the add -on, is that the Extensions add-on as depicted in your pic?

    Cheers

Yes, click on Extensions then search for the ForceCopy addon by name.

It adds a copy icon How do I get my Cut and Paste function to work properly-ff-forcecopy-icon.png in the top right corner How do I get my Cut and Paste function to work properly-ff-forcecopy-icon-2.png

Be wary of formatting. Possibly paste things 'as text' into Word in the first instance so you can quickly reduce line spacing to single and replace all unwanted line breaks. That's what I had to do with the para I quoted above.

I must be doing something wrong.

I downloaded Firefox, then add-on the ForceCopy, went to Coastwatch , clicked on fishing report and I still have the same problem. Grrrr, frustrating to say the least.

It took a few seconds after I added it then some text popped up confirming it was ready. Try, try, try again..
