10 Crashing Randomly and During Updates

I have a Windows 10 PC that I run 24/7. I have Windows Updates disabled through the Group Policy Editor. I still perform updates manually every few days. Windows Defender updates work fine. Other Windows updates cause the PC to crash, no BSOD or anything, it just turns off. I've looked for 1074, 6006, and 6008 event log files to explain why and I haven't been able to find anything.

Other times the computer just randomly crashes. The symptom is the same, I check on it and find it powered down. It boots back up fine and I see no cause listed in the logs.

I don't want to just randomly start doing things without having some idea as to a cause. Is there anyway I can determine the cause or do I just need to start addressing most likely causes one at a time? If the latter option is the solution which things should I check or do first?

You should also start with the basics. check your drive with Chkdsk for errors.

Install a tool like Crystal Disk Info to check out S.M.A.R.T. data.

All the information above will help the BSOD analysts.

You can also check your BIOS level against the vendor site. Assuming you built machine you already understand risks with BIOS updates.

Is it possible you are have a heat issue? You could try Prime95 but you need a tool to monitor heat.

Thanks Ken! I'll start digging through all of this.

I finally got around to doing these three tests. The RAM test took over 33 hours for 8 passes and I ran the Prime95 tool for 3. No errors were found with any of the tests.

Should I run V2 Log collector next?
