    Cannot hibernate through shortcut

I have Acer Nitro 5 laptop running Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763.379). I created recently a hibernate shortcut on my desktop.

    I used %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe –h

Upon double clicking the shortcut, a small cmd prompt opens for a fraction of a second then nothing happens.

I'm however able to hibernate using the power button that comes in the start menu.

I also used 'C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /h /t 0" for the hibernate shortcut but again the shortcut doesn't hibernate my windows.

What should i do to solve this trouble?

My windows and all the drivers are up to date.

Try, as a diagnostic measure, running a batch file containing your command followed by a pause so you can see what the response is
    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /h
Pause to take a look during testing

So I should paste your code and create a .bat file. Right?

Okay, this bat file works and hibernates the system. What was wrong in my shortcut?

    Hello @archz2,

As a test, does a shortcut created with this below with the Force switch added work for you?

    C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /h /f

Perhaps you were leaning on the - key too long. Your shortcut does not contain a short hyphen but a long dash
    %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe –h
    instead of
    %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -h
[I used to get that problem when MS Word automatically replaced -- with a single longer one]

So you could try pasting my -h into your shortcut to see how that behaves.
