Why not do a clean install? Why bother with a reset?

    Bree,

    Thx for the input.
In an older thread what were the steps to find the older iso (1803) on the Microsoft website?

    TTSVids105,

Do you understand how to perform the reset save files equivalent?

    Soapm,

There was no backup image made yet with boot rescue or Ubuntu.
The reset save files should allow a new version of Windows to be installed while preserving files.
Drivers and applications will need to be reinstalled.

What language do you need? The Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool offers the following ISOs for 1703 Single Language.

    Attachment 228648

As a test I generated the link for the French ISO which was for the Win10_1703_SingleLang_French_x64.iso from software-download.microsoft.com.

I can't specifically tell you how to make a bootable USB from the ISO on a Mac, but I've seen it done in Linux so it should be possible. The basic principle is that you have to prepare the USB. It must have an MBR partition layout with a Fat32 partition that is marked Active. In Linux you can do that with gparted. Then you mount the ISO as a virtual drive and copy all the files/folders to the USB. For Linux use:

    $ sudo -s
    # mount -o loop <ISO file> /mnt
    # cd /mnt
    # cp -r * <USB>
Can you generate a link to an English Single Language ISO for 1703?

I’ve also just found a tutorial on windowscentral on how to make a Windows 10 bootable USB from a Mac using Boot Camp Assistant. (It’s here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-windows-10-installer-usb-drive-mac)

Using Edge or IE go to Download Windows 10 then use the F12 Developers Tools to set the User Agent String to Apple Safari (iPad). Option Three here:

Download Windows 10 ISO File | Tutorials

Currently (I've just tested it) Microsoft offer you the choice of 1803 or 1809 ISOs.

The links generated by the Windows ISO Downloader expire after 24 hours, I'm afraid.

Because I want to keep my files. Also because my Windows is currently broken at the moment and I want to fix it

    I tried just now but:

    ”Error: 2

An error occurred. The driver store for the image could not be opened.”

I’m thinking of resetting it but keeping files per zbook’s tip now
You remember we have rename the aswElam.sys driver to aswElam.bak lets rename the driver and try the Dism command to uninstall the driver.

    Code:
    Ren aswElam.bak aswElam.sys

You were talking about doing a reset which would take you back to a fresh image. You also said you had limited time to get this done, a fresh install would be quick and would fix your broken system.
