The system partition contains boot files WinRE assigns the system partition the C: drive letter and the Windows installed partition will be assign any other drive letter usually D: drive letter is assign to Windows installed partition. The Bcdedit /enum | find "osdevice" command can be use to find out the drive letter of the Windows installed partition the output of the Bcdedit command is similar to this osdevice partition=D:. The drive letter after partition= is the drive letter of the Windows partition.

Here we go. SFC’s failed, but Chkdsk’s currently running at 2% as I’m typing this.

I’ll get back when progress has been made. Thanks for the help!

Side-note: I first encountered this issue last December, which I quickly fixed with a System Restore. Turns out I don’t have any more restore points, so I have to fix the issue myself

Chkdsk /f has just completed. And... still looping.
Sfc straight out failed. Tried Startup Repair, which seemed like it worked, but went back to looping.

So no luck on any front, can’t even reset (“There was a problem resetting your PC”). So pretty stuck here. It keeps on looping.

Would appreciate some new tips here...

EDIT: More drivers seem to be corrupted. Now it’s aswvmm.sys (Avast driver, file repair failed with 0x2 this time and checking the integrity of system files also failed with 0x490.)

    I’m stuck now.

I don’t have Startup media, I’m doing this all from the built in boot menu

Also, SFC doesn’t seem to move past ”Beginning system scan. This process will take some time”

Open registry editor by executing regedit.exe command and from registry editor load C:\Windows\System32\Config\System hive key. And from Edit menu search for aswElam.sys and delete the registry key of aswElam.sys file and unload the System hive. Restart your computer.

I went ahead and deleted the key (searching on how to load a hive key first because I didn’t know what to do), and

”Cannot delete aswElam.sys: Error while deleting key”

In case the troubleshooting does not fix the failure to boot options may include:
    a) backing up files to another drive or to the cloud followed by clean install
    b) reset save files equivalent

Find several flash drives that you can format: ( > or= 8 GB)
