On Start-Up Error < 0xc0000142 > Un-Able to Start correctly, Close App

G/Morning I have this Error and I have searched' but they are all old threads and they all seem to refer to other issues that cause the same Error except this one -- it is a discontinued thread:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.
Each time I log out at night and shut down my computer after a day's worth of it being on, I get the following message above.
I use the Western Digital External Hard Drive to back up my photos instead of having to store it on my computer hard drive"

I have a 1 TB W D Password connected but this Error only started as best I can recall after a clean Re-install which did not go so good the W D Password was connected in December 2018 Thanks for any helpin Advance Dasha

Hi Dasha.

Before we get to error you mentioned that you back your photos up to an external drive so they are not on your computer hard drive. Do you keep a copy on another drive? If not all your photos are at risk of being lost. Not sure why you don't store a first copy on your internal drive but you have your reasons. Everything digital has to be on two sources as any one source can die.

As to your error if you look in event viewer do you get more details ?

This procedure outlined in Brink's tutorial can help you isolate the App, then you can explore ways to correct.

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

You mentioned your clean install did not go well. I would run this command at a Command Prompt (admin)

sfc /scannow

Just to check Windows. Your error is likely due to WD software, I recall way back someone else had this issue.

Error codes and messages can be ambiguous.

0xc0000142: {DLL Initialization Failed} Initialization of the dynamic link library %hs failed. The process is terminating abnormally.

1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
2) sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
4) chkdsk /scan
5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

The scannow result wasn't with the copy and paste results.

What was meant by nothing found?

1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
2) sfc /scannow
3) findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
4) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

5) look on the desktop for the new file > zip >post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

6) Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB)
7) Create a bootable Windows 10 iso

Download Windows 10

My error Dasha. Sorry i posted wrong link. I usually double check.

Anyway have a look at the link now, I'm sure you will be able to follow and Identify the app.

In terms of event viewer, no thanks don't want your 995 items, just the one with your error.

Note the time you boot, since this happens at startup and find that event.

Thanks

Did you find the event in the event viewer when you booted.

We need the app name that is failing.

Open event viewer.

Expand the Windows Logs Section by clicking chevron.

On Start-Up Error < 0xc0000142 > Un-Able to Start correctly, Close App-image.png

Then click the show hide icon along top.

Then pick a log, in this example I picked System. This error is likely in System or Application log.

On Start-Up Error < 0xc0000142 > Un-Able to Start correctly, Close App-image.png

In the Action window click Filter log
On Start-Up Error < 0xc0000142 > Un-Able to Start correctly, Close App-image.png

In filter window that opens place a check mark in The Error box and click "OK".

On Start-Up Error < 0xc0000142 > Un-Able to Start correctly, Close App-image.png

This should boil log and you should be able to pick out this error. Open it, screen shot and post please.

You will have to remove filter. In Action window there is option to clear filters.

If error not in System log check application log and other logs if necessary.

Thanks
