We couldn't set your default save location

I have a ssd (C)drive with my os & a hdd (D)drive for storage. In settings-system-storage-change where new content is saved I was able to change everything I wanted to my (D)drive with the exception of new photos & videos I keep getting an error code 0x80070005 saying this operation did not complete successfully. If anyone has a fix for this I would greatly appreciate it.This is an attachment of a screenshot. I hope I did this correctly this is my first time trying to post on this site.We couldn't set your default save location-annotation-2019-03-18-001925.png

The error code is also described as ACCESS DENIED and it usually appears when you lack of permissions of storage drive.

Please open the Command Prompt by typing cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator. Following command gives Everyone group a full permission to the D: storage drive.

    Code:
    icacls D:\ /grant Everyone:F

I have this same error. Trying to set the save location to d: but end up with the same error number as above. Followed your command which reported as successful but still no go.

Ok, I know this thread is an old one, and the OP and others who posted having this issue have likely fixed it, but it will help others in the future.
You will get that error is there is already a directory structure there with the same name, so if you have re-installed windows and gone back in to redirect where its all to be saved again. If that is the case, what you need to do is either rename the old directory that is already there before you start moving things, or go into the directory and rename the folders that are causing the issue. Once you have done that you shouldnt have any issues.

could you expand on that answer please? I am not sure how to change the directory
edit: i just deleted a folder in my hdd (where i wanted to place the new save location) that had as a name my user name. After that it let me change the save location.

That is pretty much the same as renaming it, long as the same folder name isnt there you wont have problems moving the folders to the other drive. So, if the username of the folder is c:\name\picture and you want to move it to d:\name\picture, however you already have a folder on drive D as 'name\picture'. So by renaming the folder on drive D from 'name\picture' to 'name\picture1' you are then able to direct the windows default save location to that. Even an empty folder called 'picture' within the D:\name\ directory will have it give the error.

I have been recently struggling with this error. At first it manifested with my printer app days after installing the XBox Beta App. Then other apps that I use infrequently started reporting the error. A new Windows Update got installed and even more started to give the error as the Apps started their obligatory 'after-update-updating'. Thought it was permissions = Access Denied, and went through all the iterations of setting owner/access to all the folders I knew were involved in the process of installing/updating/maintenance of Store/UWP Apps. No Joy. So I then tried Microsoft's favorite go-to Fix-All... a (Non-Volatile) Repair Install and in the worst case, followed by a (Volatile) Clean Install of Lindows. I just spent hours after the Non-Volatile going through to check to see what, if anything, may have been helped by it... nadda; all is as it was... broken. If this turns out to be a simple case of: Access Denied (because path exists) and not Access Denied (because Micro$oft thinks you're a ham-fisted ape that shouldn't be allowed near a calculator, much less a PC), I am going to be very butt-hurt.

Off to rename a folder or two, or several...
    will report back...

    Selecting D:\ = Umm, no.

    "D:\WindowsApps">Properties>Security>Advanced
Set owner to Users(Full Controll (this folder, subfolders and files))
    Renamed to WindowsApps.old (no errors)

Attempt to set D:\ again= Success!

    One issue down.
Now to see if I can repopulate the apps by moving them instead of re-downloading all of them...

Trying open the new "D:\WindowsApps" folder = umm, no...

    Ok, "D:\WindowsApps">Properties>Security>Advanced
Set owner to Users, Click Apply, OK, OK, Refresh the view.
Try and open it again= Success!
Now to try to move a known borked App from the old folder to the new one, then try to get it to do something more than just read&execute...

Must rest for work, will pick this up tomorrow...

nope... i lost it... still issues like before, but a few apps did start working again, but not enough to call it a win...

Thank you, you did what the Microsoft service engineers couldn't do!

I searched for hours to solve the problem, what happens is that the same error still occurs. I searched for many places but this solution was the only one that worked, I even took some time here to create the account and personally thank you for the solution. Rename the Windowsapp folder. Thanks again!
