Start menu desktop icon missing when typing

So after resetting my Windows 10 last night with the option of "Removing Apps and Keeping all Personal Files".

I noticed after reinstalling my apps, when I type in the name of the app in the search bar "manually", the icon is missing. See screenshot below. The icon is there when I scroll through my start menu.

So can anyone tell me if there is a solution to fix this problem? I like the icons to be there so I know that I am clicking on the right application.

Hi, you say you have reinstalled apps (usually tends to mean UWP apps from the Store)- can you confirm you reinstalled MS Office?

I've not used this feature, preferring an in-place upgrade repair install when possible, as this keeps all progs and data.

    You might try this
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10 | Tutorials
or perhaps rebuilding your search index.

I went to Settings > Update & Security > (left column) Recovery > Reset this PC.

This was the method I used to reset my PC. I installed the app from the microsoft website which download from and not the microsoft app store and this goes for all of my other applications I used before I reset my PC as well.

The icon in question calls itself a Desktop app - which suggests the traditional Microsoft Office suite. But you can get versions of Office from the Store.

Do you recall how you installed Office, and have you reinstalled it?

You can try the last two options in my previous post too.

It also goes for my other apps like Spotify and some other miscellaneous apps I installed. So they also appeared the same white app instead of its traditional icon itself for some reason.

Somebody on the microsoft community forum was able to give me the quickest simplest solution to this problem!

To do this, you go to Settings > System > Display > and change the Scale and layout from 100% to 150% or more until the icons re-appear and then switch the display back to 100%.
