Tried moving User objects, now 3D Objects shows as a folder

Want to move my User settings to another partition but non-tenforums steps are wrong. Now my 3D Objects appears as a folder 'Dave', in my User folder alongside Pictures, etc. (I moved it back there.)

I've read the tutorials on this site and will follow. But how do I make my 3D Objects have it's true name again?
I'm not sure it is not in fact a folder. On the other partition it would sometimes appear as 3D Objects yet other times appear as folder Dave.

    Thank you very much,

    Mustachio

Under 'This PC', is it showing as '3D Objects' or 'Dave'?

What is the path shown on the Location tab of the folder's Properties dialog? Copy this path to the clipboard for the next step.

While you sort this out, you can avoid the confusion of file-system name vs. display name by doing the following:

    WinKey+X -> Window's PowerShell (Admin)
    Type the follwoing:
    sl<space><paste path from Clipboard>
    ren desktop.ini desktop.sav

    Post back with results.

    Keith,

Under This PC it's showing as the folder, DAVE. That path is C:\Users\Mac20\DAVE.

    Thanks.

Is "DAVE" your user name? Or "Mac20"?

Normally "3D Objects" location points to "C:\Users\whatever_your_name_is\3D Objects"

Username is the outlook user: Mac20. I'd like to rename my User DAVE but not sure how to do that, since MS wants me to link outlook account.

Yeah, I understand how 3D Objects would normally look. Not sure how this happened. Bad instructions said to right click on items in your User folder and on Properties>location>Move select the new location. In this case H:

Looks like you typed it wrong or the instructions were wrong or something.

You can rename your user (see this Tutorial : Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10 | Tutorials) but in my experience it always ends up failing somewhere down the line - there is some file in %appdata% hardcoded with the old profile name. I had it fail with OneDrive for example.

Anyway in your case why not try changing the path to the correct one and see if it works?

That is (if I understand correctly) either C:\Users\Mac20\3D Objects or E:\Users\Mac20\3D Objects

Thanks I'll try that. OK, found this is a folder. Wasn't sure. So should be no problem to rename.

Also found if you remove it (for some reason) it will be recreated is you have the 3D Viewer app installed.

    Thanks.

If you want to change your user name I was you I would make a new admin user called "Dave". Then copy all your files from "Mac20" to "Dave".

You can then disconnect Microsoft account from "Mac20" and attach it to "Dave".

If all is OK you can then delete "Mac20"

There are tutorials for all this if you want...

I'll probably try the new User/admin account after I get all objects moved. Right now all but 3 are now in the H:\DAVE folder but the 3 that are left have no location tab so not sure how to 'move' them.

Thank you for all the help KeithM & lx07.
