Video playback stutter from local and streamed content

    Hi all

Is it actually possible to get completely smooth video playback on Windows 10?

I have tried everything. Updated drivers, clean re-install, upgraded GPU from 970 to 1070.

Out of desperation I then bought another i7 PC just to see if it was my hardware was at fault but that has the same problem.

It seems crazy that my FireTV stick that weighing 1lb can play beautiful smooth HD video but my 25lb PC cannot!

Any advice much appreciated! I really want a Windows 10 HTPC but can't bear watching video that stutters.

Hi, yes, for most people. However, stutter is a recurrent issue for a few, and can arise for different reasons. It can be very hard to identify a cause in some cases, and time consuming and somewhat technical in others. Often it seems the cause is unique to a situation.

Sometimes it's related to a particular driver, sometimes to the use of particular hardware or software.

You can find many threads here, each largely individual, if you simply search for
    stutter

Latency Mon (free) by Resplendence is the first tool to try.
MS's Windows Performance Recorder allows detailed inspection using a graphical representation.

    Example: (unresolved):
High DPC latency causing audio stutters - Windows 10 Forums

    Apparently resolved:
Crackling audio over 3.5 and USB, fine over HDMI and in Ubuntu Solved - Windows 10 Forums

I should add there's probably no-one truly expert in diagnosing this problem here.

Have you tried using VLC with it's many tools and options?Time spent reading the extensive User Manual wood be well worth it.Also, have a look at videohelp.com a safe site specialising in video/audio.

This is caused by the nVIDIA 3D Vision Driver. If I have it installed, even trying to seek between different parts of a movie causes a 2 second lag.

If you don't need it or don't have a 3D Screen, uninstall it from the Control Panel > Programs & Features then reboot and test

nVIDIA Will get rid of it completely very soon. see:
