Strange anomaly with Properties on Windows folder?

I've noticed something strange on one of my w10 Home systems runjning 17763.316. When I right click the Windows folder to check properties, it shows under 3gb of data with around 15,000 files. When I drill down and select all and return properties that way, I get what I expect - 20+gb of data with just under 100,000 files.

On my other system 17763.253, the propertiers when right-clicking on the Windows folder or from selecting all from within that folder returns the same values.

Is there a known issue with .316?

I can only suggest that you made a mistake when checking your second system [17763.253] because Windows always returns inconsistent results for such comparisons.

Some of the files within your Windows folder are sort-of-shortcuts that contribute their target file sizes to the total size of both the target folder & the folder that the sort-of-shortcuts are in. This double-counting affects reported folder sizes.

You can get true/truer folder size data using TreeSize or similar. See How to interpret TreeSize results for some guidance.

I should have made clear the two systems are identical, in that .253 was a clone of .316 until the latter recently updated to .316.

This is why I assumed .316 is the issue. I've never noticed this in the past?

Seems another member is experiencing a similarly issue?

    Thanks dalchina.

Your Explorer properties are identical to mine.

I've done some testing and manually updated .253 to .316 - this resulted in the issue I've seen on the first system updated to .316. Updating to .348 has not resolved the issue.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue with their Windows folder?

Notice that Xyplorer gets it right.

(Yes, it can show folder sizes in the pane, fairly quickly, as it uses the MFT)
