I just noticed I have the rempl folder in the Programs folder. It appears that the programs in this folder are used by Windows Update?
Have you (or a third party utility) made changes to any service or scheduled task dealing with Windows Update?

My experience is that if, for example, you disable any of the 4 update-related services ('wuauserv', 'dosvc', 'UsoSvc' and the fallback 'bits' service) then 'basic' telemetry flags the device for installation of 'remediation' - the most visible of which is KB4023057 - in an attempt to stop/deter any further fiddling with Windows Update.

I also note that you can uninstall KB4023057 but the 'remediation' continued on at least one of my devices. I had to download Sysinternals/TechNet's PSEXEC then use the following to disable the scheduled task:
    Code:
    psexec -i -d -s schtasks /change /tn "microsoft\windows\WaaSMedic\PerformRemediation" /disable
    Hope this helps...

The rempl folder is related to a specific version of Windows 10. It shows up on older versions (e.g. 16xx), if memory serves. See this Google search for more information.

I'm not sure I would call 1803 an older version when many still don't have 1809.

MS define 'older version' as anything that is not the current 1809 . The reported purpose of KB4023057 is, amongst other things, to ensure you have sufficient space to complete the upgrade.

    Applies to: Windows 10 version 1803, Windows 10 version 1607, Windows 10 version 1703, Windows 10 version 1709, Windows 10, Windows 10 version 1511...

...When a Windows feature update is available for your device, you may see a message on the Windows Update settings page or elsewhere that asks you to free up disk space by removing files or applications that you do not use regularly. If you see this message, select Fix issues to free up disk space on your device.

I think the "rempl" folder and the programs contained have been beaten to death. I've have had 1809 on all my systems for a long time - probably since mid-December when the last rempl Log folder entry was made. I went and deleted the App that Windows Update installed thinking it might do something like stop Cumulative Update from turning off Network Discovery. It did not, the last Cumulative Update appeared a few days ago and I had to go and turn on Network Discovery on every system that was updated. I thought maybe there was an update to the KB4023057 update for 1809 but could not find one.

I'd expect one will be issued after 1903 is released....

Another oh weird. This was still on my laptop even though I am on 1903.It was dated from the middle of last year for 1803 I believe. I followed the ask vg article earlier in this thread to uninstall it. Seems it had no scheduled tasks or service associated with it anymore. I uninstalled through control panel and then deleted the folder. Everything seems fine . I haven't rebooted yet and am a bit apprehensive about that. I left the folder in the recycle bin .It was just full of .etl files from earlier 2018 to December then no more.

I've got it on my system also. It was created in Jan and Feb on this year. But it's important to note, MS finally updated my system from 1803 to 1809 in Feb of this year. In May, MS updated me to 1903. Go figure. I think I'll leave it alone for awhile, my system seems to be working okay and I don't want to mess it up by doing something I'm not sure about.

I actually restored the folder in case windows needs it to reinstall the updated version for me . I would just leave it alone and I feel I should have too. I read many posts though if you uninstall it windows will reinstall it. So at least I should get the updated version for the next major upgrade.
