"Show most used apps" is disabled and it affects the "Run" history?

Thanks for linking the relevant tutorials. I've read and checked each one including the Registry setting recommended by dalchina, and everything is as recommended. So, I am wondering if this may be an incorrect permission issue. I remember seeing a Microsoft tool which resets the user's (admin) permissions to their default, but I don't remember where. Or, because this being a new installation and not an upgrade, there may be different settings. Any thoughts on this?

    Your screenshot has
    - Some settings ... (in red)

Does suggest it could be the equivalent of a group policy setting. Here's mine for comparison: notice the text missing on yours:

You could also open Windows Registry and check this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > Explorer > NoChangeStartMenu.
If it exists, then its value should be 0.
Have you checked that from Freebooter's link?

And have you checked through your group policy editor options for enabled policies?

The new tutorial below should help when Let Windows track app launches to improve Start and search results is grayed out and disabled.

Went through ALL group policy settings. Everything is "Not configured".

I had to create it as DWORD32.

Checked the Group Policy (it was "Not Configured) but I preferred to download and apply the Regfile.

Thanks for all the time and effort. I checked and did everything as told, but the two settings referred to are still disabled. HOWEVER, the Run history is now being retained. I tested this with several apps, Regedit, Msconfig, and Firefox etc., and rebooted twice and it's all there.

P.S. Also apologize for the delay in replying. Had to get some sleep. :)
