    Everything Stops Responding

Two days ago my laptop stopped working. It was working perfectly the night before but now every application I use works for less than 5 minutes before it freezes and tells me it’s not resonding. I tried a few things to fix it before deciding to just put my important stuff on a flash drive and reset the thing to factory settings. But when I tried to do that I get an error message that stops me from doing so. My most recent failure was to just try booting the computer from an external DVD drive (laptop doesn’t have an internal one) with Windows 10 to re-install and that proved fruitless. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hi RobertDKJ. Welcome to the TenForums @RobertDKJ

Proved fruitless obviously means it didn't work but it would help if you shared error messages or what happen. First two things I would check are memory and your storage drive.

    MemTest86+ - Test RAM

If you create Kyhi's recovery disk you should be able to boot from it. Once Windows starts, click Start, then All Programs, HD Tasks, Diagnostics and start SeaGate Tools. You will get an error message, just continue. Then run the Basic tests, especially the Long Generic test.

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

You can use either ISO, 32 bit or 64 bit.

Let us know if you pass memory and drive tests.

Don't reset to factory. Just do a reset which will effectively reinstall Windows 10.
