Same thing. Just happened for the first time I caught today. Has me worried as heck considering I spent almost 10k building this thing and I really can't afford to replace any hardware after just having my first kid.

This thread and its potential relation to windows 10 makes me feel a little better. Lord knows it's been an unstable mess in other areas. Mostly related to specific games, gpu drivers, or raid drivers.

Guess all we can do is watch and hope ms and other hardware providers get in gear cause windows 10 while a definite improvement over 8, is certainly not there yet.

They better and soon because this is very very bad for your hardware let alone the data loss potential. I assume Microsoft could even have legal liability if this becomes widespread and begins causing hardware failures from power being cut randomly.

Until then I get to be annoyed and paranoid each time it happens that I'm going to restart to a corrupted windows install.

So far I've seen a whole lot of nothing except definition updates for windows defender that needs to STAY OFF. Ugh!

    Hi,
I faced also the problem described above ( laptop reboots after some time (30-40 min) if is not used (idle mode).
Also the sleeping mode did not worked. I did not had this problem under Win7 nor Win 8.0/8.1.

Here the solution worked in my case ( I got this hint from some else).
I deinstalled virusscanner (Kaspersky) and reinstalled virus´scanner again ( newer version IS 2016).
Under Defender - after deinstallation Kaspersky - the sleeping mode worked perfectly again.
I did not had an unwanted reboot .

After upgrading to Windows 10, my computer now restarts after I have left it idle for more than about an hour. I havent caught it in the act so I don't know exactly what it does when it restarts. I changed the update settings to notify me before restart so that shouldn't be the issue in this case. Any ideas?
I may have found a setting that leads to this problem, which I have also been dealing with for a while.
In the Power and Sleep setting where you can select to have monitor turn off NEVER and choose NEVER for Sleep, there's an option below those for Advance Settings which open a box which shows a big list of setting to change. I noticed one for setting (minutes) for the Hard Disk to shut down. Mine was set for 20 minutes. I changed that and will see next time I idle so long if that makes a difference. There is a maximum number of minutes you can set. Not sure what the actual limit is. I tried a huge number and wouldn't set to that, so I tried 600 (equals 10 hours). It let me set it for that amount.

I think what 90% of the people experiencing the restart when idle is auto update, the other 10% just have dicked up machines.

I'm having a similar issue with Windows 10.
My PC shuts off randomly with no BSOD and reboots.
I've changed thew power settings so that nothing turns off for ages, so that's not an issue.
I didn't get any reboots on Windows 7.

    Specs:
    Asus Z87-K
    i7 4770k
    8Gb 2133
    GTX 770
    EVGA 650G PSU

    Cheers for any info.

interesting find Gobi5... i'll try this too.... but now i downgraded to Windows 7. And this time it was not a restart but my screen just switched off. Monitor had no signal. (The same thing happened in the W10 installation at times too)
Im guessing it was a loose VGA. I pulled it out, cleaned the contacts and plugged it back in. Will test it out today as well. (The VGA motherboard RAM and Processor are barely three weeks old .... )
I had the exact same thing happening when I was playing GW2.
Turns out that if there is an onboard graphics card as well as an "add-on" graphics card, the 2 don't like to play together. To fix this I went into Device Manager > View > Display Hidden Devices
Then under Display Adapters there will be one that is grey (Mine was Intel HD 4700 or something) and my Nvidia GeForce GTX 960. I uninstalled the Intel card, and have had no issues since.

    Hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue as well. windows 10, reboots only on idle, no BSOD. this also isn't the first installation of this OS. I've had this issue on every reformat that I've had to do.

    specs:
    gigabyte GA-790FXTA
    AMD phenom II 965be 3.4Ghz
    Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium (pci-e card)
    12GB DDR3 Ram
    AMD XFX R9 270x (crossfired)
    Corsair 850TX PSU

i'll update this post with all of my loaded software/background tasks here in a while to see if there are any commonalities between us.

*edit* well the list will be pointless. I tried a clean boot last night with just Razer comms, steam and Battle.net launcher loaded. played some games then put it to idle/lockscreen and woke up to find this thing had rebooted. gonna keep updating with some troubleshooting findings. gonna try to leave this thing in my bios while at work today.

*edit2* bios test was good today. I figured it would be. my next test is to leave the computer in safe mode for the next 24 ish hours.

#edit3* safe mode test panned out ok. again no reboots. one thing I did notice is that since leaving the computer in safe mode I have had no more reboots in normal mode. from here if I get the same problem i'll begin looking at drivers and the like.

Hi all I'm having same problem I have a Asus g75vw gaming laptop windows 7. After upgrade to windows ten it reboots once after about 15 minutes after that its ok, then I checked my event viewer and I get kernel power log error 41 blabla Updated to windows 10 on 29/9/2015 the next day when I turned on my laptop 30/9/2015 it rebooted on its own after about 15 minutes but like I said it runs ok after that one reboot, so thought it was a bit coincidental, rang Asus they said it needs repairs but I think its windows 10 and I don't want to be charged for nothing. I thought could it be a software problem but its got me beat, one thing I tried was unplug mains power and ran it on battery only and it didn't reboot so what's that tell you, i refuse to believe its my power adapter dates tell me something, any suggestions I've tried a few things that I've read but no fix, I have read updates on windows 10 are causing a lot of reboot loop issues but mine isn't in a loop, it just reboots once after 15 minutes weird , laptop runs perfectly otherwise

Forgot to mention I worked out the dates buy the first kernel error log and windows 10 first update Microsoft couldn't tell me how to find out when I upgraded to windows 10 so hope this small detail can help because knowing the date didn't make this such a mystery it tells me its more like software and not hardware
