Explorer: CMYK jpeg thumbnails in negative

I noticed this a few days ago, googled and found this 2012 thread–and no solution:

My folders show CMYK jpeg thumbnails in negative. Can't figure out - Microsoft Community

Explorer: CMYK jpeg thumbnails in negative-wtfnegs1.png

Any idea why it is so and how to fix it?

My system is Windows 10 Pro 1809 (17763.316). Thanks in advance.

Hi, fwiw, I converted a png screenshot to cmyk jpg using
    Online RGB to CMYK conversion

    ->
Explorer: CMYK jpeg thumbnails in negative-snap-2019-02-22-19.01.10.png
    - looks ok, except for a shade change

Photos is the default on this laptop.

I thank you guys very much, but I do know the differences between RGB and CMYK. And I can easily convert images and some of their specs using IrfanView, CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, paint.net, or GIMP.

The issue I'm trying to understand is why Windows shows CMYK jpeg/jpg thumbnails in negative. And, of course, how to fix it.

I understand that. Without an example of it not working I've nothing to play with.

Point is, I've at least shown that on the latest 1809 it can work.

What was your default viewer when you took that screenshot?

I don't understand your last question. The negative issue appears to me when I look at the images in Explorer. It's not a result of taking the screenshot.

To take screenshots I use the Print Screen key then paste into IrfanView, which is my default image viewer.

I will rephrase- what program was associated with the file type of the file whose image is in question at the time when you took the screenshot? (Feels like I'm rephrasing as if I were a barrister... )

    Have you tried
Clear and Reset Thumbnail Cache in Windows 10 | Tutorials
and how do these appear in the Preview pane?

Can you upload one of the images in question?

Maybe check defaults in control panel > color management. Here's mine.

Explorer: CMYK jpeg thumbnails in negative-color-management.jpg
