How to access a folder just by typing its Name

Hi, I want to know how do I access a folder only by typing its name like we access "Documents, Onedrive, Links, Music" etc.

I want to be able to access this folder from anywhere like from typing its name on the run command or in the explorer address bar.

Let's say the folder is in W:\md\work

I already tried to put a link to the folder in the userprofile but it didn't work.

Just start typing the name in the Search on the bottom left of the task bar. Depending on how you have it set up, it could look like this or a full Cortana search bar. Or click the Start Menu button and start typing the folder name. Either way.

Thanks for the replys but that's not what I meant. What I want is to just type the folder name from anywhere File explorer address bar, run command,

For example when I type in the folder name "Work" in the file explorer address bar it opens chrome with this in the address bar "work/"...

When I type: Downloads, Music, Links etc...everything goes fine. I want this but for my personalized folder.

file explorer is designed to do two things with a string in the address bar:

    a. If it's a path with an exact match, it opens the specified file or folder.
    b. if not, it performs an internet search.

For any other option there, I think you'd need to have a word with Satya or whoever the relevant design team leader might be.

There are 3rd party tools that provide uniform access to favourites and recent items across dialogues - file explorer, open/save dialogues- which are a great convenience.

If you modified your approach, you might find some great tools.

If you have just a few such folders and don't mind using something like %work% instead of work , for example, would the "System Variable" approach work for you?

Thanks I know about system variables but that's not what I'm looking for. I suspect that the solution is somewhere in the registry.

    Dick, he wants more ...

If you enter downloads or documents or pictures in the Run box and press Enter, File explorer opens that folder. So whatever is unique about the User folders is why this works for them.

Maybe a NTFS Junction/symlink in the Users folder pointing to W:\md\work would do the trick?
