    Slow Shutdown Process

    hello

i recently upgraded to a new motherboard and CPU alongside with new memory. motherboard im currently using right now is Asrock B450m Pro4. ps. its a new clean install of windows october update 1809.

the problem here is, when i click Shutdown button in windows, like everybody else, it takes quite a few while before it begins the shutting down process. and when it does start, it still takes longer time to actually boot down the pc till completion. its driving me insane. i've also tried shutdown using cmd (shutdown /s) but even then the command takes a while before completing.

ive also tried disabling/enabling "Turn on fast startup" in Power options. i have altered registry "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" from 5000 to 1000, vice versa. used Troubleshooting for Power, all it did was change my Power options from High performance to Balanced. also tried powercfg reset thingy. tried closing softwares down before start shutting down, no dice.

i have Ultra fast boot enabled in BIOS. this issue didnt happen yesterday, or even earlier. it just started all of a sudden.

while im here, i also want to ask why sometimes my keyboard and mouse dont power up at all during boot screen, making the screen (Asrock logo) stuck and only force restart will fix it. leaving me having to press the power button 3 times to actually boot up. (first boot, force restart and another boot)

    thanks for any assistants

I question if you are missing a driver for your new components. Are you running the latest BIOS and drivers for everything?

i downloaded amd all in one vga driver, amd chipset from amd website, asrock tuning driver, realtek lan driver, realtek audio driver. but i havent tried updating BIOS, cause it didnt work when i tried updating it from windows without instant flashing.

my restart button from the start menu works fine. but shut down, it just went to the toilet.

update: i've updated my BIOS to the latest version there is, no difference that i noticed. and i also notice that Alt+F4 shutdown instantly brings me to the shutdown screen whereas the start menu delays for a minute or 2 before bringing me to the shutdown screen. but the shutdown screen still takes ages to finish.

ive also clean installed yet again, but no cigar. i shouldve probably tried shutting down before installing stuff though

    another update

i have found that my shut down button in the start menu is the problem. i can restart anywhere as i please. but to shut down, i have opted to create a shortcut with the cmd to shutdown, 0 delay. and it does work. if i use that command for a system shutdown, it works flawlessly like its supposed to. but if i click shut down from the start menu then hold on tight for a 2-6 minutes shut down process. or even longer.

    issue has not been resolved.

i even tried clean installing using an older image file just in case my current image was corrupted. i had the same problem upon finishing the clean installation. nothing was installed and it was fresh windows.

so i think it is related to hardware issues, but i dont know what could it be. considering this is happening with new mobo, ram and cpu. what should i be looking for?

huge bump. but i figured out the problem after all these while bugging me.

after several clean installs, and even with the new M.2 ssd i just bought, the problem still occurred. the disk defragment and disk management also suffered with slow bootup.

the solution is what the first reply originally suspicious about, which are drivers. i had no way of knowing which drivers are required cause i literally installed everything from the motherboard page list.

so recently, i used Driver Easy to scan the whole PC and update all of the drivers necessary. now i dont know which driver exactly did the trick, but im assuming the ones that are related to bus controllers etc. after it got updated, my shutdown function is back to normal again. including the disk defragmenter and disk management being delayed. huzzah!

Im using B450M Steel Legend which the shutdown is super slow after turning off "Fast startup"(under 1min). But, if I turn on fast startup, it shutdown super fast(under 10seconds). BIG DIFFERENCE!

Be careful, I recommend you to remove driver updater software and undo any changes it made.
You should always install driver manually, from:
    1. motherboard site or laptop site
    2. GPU site
    3. official hardware component site only if needed.

Windows updates, driver updater tools and random web sites are not recommended for driver updates.

    EDIT:
Windows updates for driver updates are valid only if before mentioned 3 points do not have driver for your device, but driver updater tools and random sites are never good, it's better to have old drivers or upgrade hardware instead.

I don't have any problem with my PC, but since last windows upgrade (from 20H2 to 21H1) shutdown is too slow. I tried many solutions but nothing helped. How to fix it?

uco73, You should start a NEW thread as this one is already set as solved.
