    management console


    recently I reinstalled windows 10 home edition on my hp laptop and since then the microsoft management console is appearing each time I try to open settings or services ect. why is this happening it didn't before.

    Can't say I've seen this before but I would suggest installing all the latest updates if you can.

    Do you mean that the MMC opens, but has nothing in it? If so, something has not been set up correctly. The MMC engine is used to show Services, but you shouldn't be seeing the MMC itself. If you've only just reinstalled W10 I would wipe it and install it again. If you have used it for a while and added stuff that would be time consuming to reinstall, then I would try an in-place repair install.

    Settings is a Windows App and should have nothing to do with the MMC, but Services is an MMC snap-in, defined by the file services.msc in the System32 folder. You can run it manually by typing services.msc in the WinKey+R Run box. Other commonly used MMC snap-ins are Disk Management, Task Scheduler, the Event Viewer and Device Manager.

    One particularly useful MMC snap-in is Computer Management ( compmgmt.msc ) which has all of the above (and more) in one place for easy access.
