Remove link to bing.com in File Explorer

This must be from a very recent update as it just started appearing.

The Locations field dropdown in File Explorer now contains "Quick Access" with the bing logo. If I type something, then it opens bing.com in a browser window.

How do I permanently remove any reference to or connection with bing in File Explorer?

Could you post a screenshot please? (To post a screenshot please use the Insert image icon above your post)

What is your Windows build? (Windows key + r, winver).

    If I type something
    - in the address bar?
If anything typed here is not a path which exists, it will trigger a search as you describe.

Sure. Here's what I see. When I open File Explorer, the location field displays a blue star and the words "Quick access". If I click on the dropdown, then the star changes to the bing logo. If I click on that, it takes me to bing.com and some page about quick access. I do not want anything in the location dropdown to take me to bing.com.

Thanks. At a guess, this may help.

I've not seen a bing icon like that, so will be interested in other comments. I'd guess it's related to your search history -items shown in the dropdown list.

Right-click in the address bar, then Delete history?

That seems to have cleared it. I have no idea how it got there, but the latest Windows update did several annoying things. Will reboot and see if it stays fixed. Thanks!

    • delete Explorer search history,

    • choose another search provider in Internet Options and make it default, then Remove Bing,

    • navigate to C:/Users/yourname/Favorites and delete the Bing URL accelerator.

I don't think IE accelerators are stored as favorites.

Not per se, but the Bing/Explorer Search Scope link resides there...

If you delete it from there, Bing will no longer show up in the drop down and no longer take you to bing.com...

There was a shortcut to bing in that folder. Even though I never use Internet Explorer. I deleted it.

So annoying when these updates do this underhanded stuff. I also had to restore my Shift-Right click access to open a command window.
