Computer will not start, how do I boot from a flash drive? Solved

Computer will not start, how do I boot from a flash drive?

I have a new Dell i3670 with win10 and UEFI. There seems to be no method of booting from a flash drive containing an image file connected to a USB port if I have major problems and the computer will not finish startup. Boot from USB Drive on Windows 10 PC appears to assume the computer is running. Is there an approach? A local technician says no.

Hi, could you define 'will not start'? Do you mean no signs of power, nothing on screen, unable to access BIOS?

If so, would seem you have a hardware problem.

Please describe exactly what you see happen when you try to boot - or better take photos and post them if anything to see (using the Insert Image icon above your post)

    1) Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums | Tutorials
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

    2) There are options to enter multiple computers.

    3) Can the computer boot normally without the USB drive?

    4) If not then run the Dell preboot diagnostics:
    SupportAssist Preboot | Dell US

    5) If the computer can boot normally then test the hardware with the Dell full test:
Support for Inspiron 3670 | Diagnostics | Dell US

    6) If you can rule out hardware problems then :

    a) try alternative bootable flash drives

    b) try both USB 2 and USB 3 ports

    c) temporarily disable fast boot or ultra fast boot
Enable or Disable Fast Boot in UEFI Firmware Settings for Windows | Tutorials

    d) temporarily turn off secure boot
Enable or Disable Secure Boot on Windows 10 PC | Tutorials

    f) temporarily change UEFI native to UEFI hybrid with CSM

    g) temporarily switch to Legacy in BIOS settings

If there's nothing on the screen, all else is redundant, methinks. Unless is this a purely hypothetical question- still a possibility from the original post.
