    Data Recovery- The Finals

    @JohnRuby1

    1. If you can afford to spend $29.95:

    Run Active@ File Recovery Standard - Free Demo version. Scan your drive and if it shows all the files you want to recover, after checking the integrity of the files buy a licence and copy all folders/files. It works the same way as Getdataback Simple ($70). You will be choosing - a $40 - lesser evil .

    Unfortunately it is not available in Kyhi's Rescue Disk. You have to take the HDD out put it in an enclosure or directly plug-in to Motherboard SATA, and run it on another working PC.

    Active@ File Recovery: download evaluation version for free

    Active@ File Recovery: Order Online Download Software Immediately

    2. If you don't want to spend even a single cent:

    Try the Lucid Puppy way - my post #16

    Good Luck.

    TestDisk is the only 100% totally Free Data Recovery program. It is not very user friendly but the price is right
    I have not used GetDataBack from the Boot Disk, so I'm not sure if it requires to pay to recover. I own the paid version. But I have had the best luck with that program

    Sorry for taking so long to get back to all of you; I was out of town over the weekend but finally got down to dealing with this, and ran LucidPuppy this morning. And all documents are visible, and apparently in working order!
    I'm about to run out to grab a larger external HD to back them up onto, but so far everything looks good.

    Once again, sorry for taking so long to get back, but long story short: I got the external drive, and recovered all the data that had been on the computer. Thank you all so much for your help! Now to figure out what exactly was wrong with it in the first place...

    I wouldn't mess with the drive, just replace it. It's no longer a drive I would trust with my data at any time.
    Drives are cheap.

    I just bought a 1Tb 7200RPM 64MB cache WD drive from Amazon for $42, free shipping, 2 day delivery. They had a 4TB drive, same specs for $69. Replace the defective drive, clean install the latest Windows 10, restore your data and be up abd running in 1 day (after you get the new drive).

    And that was four weeks ago and I was wondering what happened . Anyway glad you were able to retrieve and backup your data successfully. Good show.

    Since your present HDD is failing or has failed, clean install Windows 10 afresh on a new HDD as suggested by other experts.
