If you booted from Kyhi's recovery disk you should just be able to use File explorer to copy your data to a suitable storage.

I think what I'm reading into your question you can't actual see the the storage drive in your system.

    Is that the case?

If so we may need to get someone with Data recovery skills to attempt to repair.

You are correct. I'm running HD Tune to see if I can figure out what's wrong with it, but this is currently what I see:NTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-51695064_2027806970668381_7955302403207593984_n.jpg

OK, just saw the notification this morning ( my time 10:00AM). Gave it a rapid read - didn't understand much -Windows 10 and its idiosynchrosies. Not a Linux expert either. But still:

The best way to retrieve data from a non-bootable Windows system is to try to boot it into Linux and check whether Linux could read the drive.

    1. Download Lucid Puppy (Ubuntu-compatible Build) version 5.2.8 ISO from Long-Term-Supported WaryPuppy (LTS)

    2. Create a bootable pendrive with that ISO using Rufus

    3. Boot into Linux and check whether it can access your drive. If accessible you can copy all files to another drive.

Go to the topic "Recovering files from the non-bootable Internal drive" in this thread Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer - Windows 7 Help Forums on how to use/ navigate in Lucid Puppy

Note: This will work only if your drive remains healthy. In case you are unable to to access the drive - hmm... did you try GSmartcontrol.exe to perform hard drive tests as advised elsewhere? We shall think of it later after seeing the results of Lucid Puppy.

In Kyrhi's, just like in Windows, you press the yellow File Explorer icon in the tool bar. Browse to your Windows drive Users/[YourUserName] and drag and drop or copy and paste your personal files (ie) Documents, Music, Pictures etc to an External USB HDD or large Flash drive (not Kyhi's) that you have attached previously.
Once safely backed up and Windows is re-installed, then plug in this drive and return the items to your User file the same way.
To try and repair Windows, go to Macrium Reflect off of the Start button in the
Kyrhi's desktop, on the left panel in Macrium, press Fix Boot Problems

Thank you Jumanji--before I go ahead with your solution: I ran HDTune the other day, and it's finding the hard drive, even though I can't find it via File Explorer. This is the read out I'm getting:
NTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-51783097_2070556142998416_2730697227059068928_n.jpgNTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-52262033_549728598856728_5835408392461484032_n.jpgNTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-51675460_332846930668474_8306811559028457472_n.jpg.
I'm not sure if anything can be taken away from this--but it does show that the drive is still being recognized to some extent, perhaps?

Spunk: I've gone into file explorer, but I don't see it. This is what I'm getting:NTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-51926014_422027398536151_633677769749823488_n.jpg

Thanks again for all your help.

From what I see from the HD Tune error scan, the bad sectors/clusters are at the beginning of the HDD where the boot files normally reside. That would explain why your HDD is not booting. I also see that it is a Seagate 500GB HDD(ST9500325AS)

( I would think that Macrium Reflect- Fix Boot Problems may not fix it for it will not repair bad sectors. It would be better to try and repair the bad sectors with the manufacturer's utility first)

Download SeaTools for DOS, prepare a bootable CD, run it and try to repair.

Seagate Tutorial: SeaTools for DOS tutorial | Seagate Support

NTFS file system error while booting, unable to upgrade from USB-12-02-2019-12-16-09.jpg

If repair is successful, you may be able to boot your PC. If not successful, you have no other option except to recover the data - try the Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer .

(After recovering the data, you may try the Macrium Reflect - Fix boot problems as suggested by spunk in his post #17) .

Even if the boot problem gets fixed, it would be better to take the HDD out of service and replace it. ( Once bad sectors have started showing up, we don't know when it will totally fail. But rest assured that the failure mode has started ). Clean install Windows 10 on the new HDD/SDD -peace of mind.

As stated the HDD has Bad Sectors the Red in the HD Tune. This is a sign the HDD is failing. Seatools is one of the tools on Kyhi's Boot disk, it won't do anything different then HD Tune has already done, identify the Bad Sectors and mark them as such. Any data on the Bad Sectors will not be recoverable. You might be able to recover files with Data Recovery software. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. Which is also on the Recovery Flash drive. You will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to. Then replace the HDD and reinstall Windows.
