    Lack of Sleep

I have a Windows 10 media PC. It drives a large screen mounted on the wall. The problem I have is that I have it set to enter sleep mode after 2 hours, but invariably I find it sill on the next day, playing videos. It seems that under some circumstances it just ignores the fact that there is no user input and decides not to shut down. I think this is when there is activity on the Ethernet port. Certain websites will continue to send data until manually stopped, which is unfortunately stopping the PC from entering sleep. Does anyone know of a way to get a pc to ignore activity on an Ethernet port and go to sleep anyway? Or perhaps an advanced power management package?

You could check the Power Management settings of your Ethernet controller under its Properties, via Device Manager.

    Attachment 223452

i.e., Device Manager > Network Adapters (find your ethernet controller, right click) > Properties > Power Management > make sure 'Allow this device to wake the computer' is unchecked

I have a laptop that I'd close at night (still on)and slip into a bag, typically with a full or near full charge. In the morning I'd awake to find it never went to sleep, was hot as hell, and the battery basically dead. That's when I learned the cute trick --

-- of shutting it off at night.

I'd set your PC to go off and come on at set hours to both address this issue and your needs. Plus a refreshed PC is better with RAM in my opinion. I intentionally buy SSD PCs so that even a midday reboot is meaningless in the time sense.

@The Pool Man - that is the best solution - more secure on the ethernet connection as well.

    Thank you,
I could create a task to shut it off but the problem is the trigger. There are no are no set hours that it needs to go off by. It needs to switch off after a certain amount of inactivity on the keyboard and mouse. The closest there is, is to go to sleep, but that is being held on by activity on the Ethernet port.
