Stuck in boot loop after 1809 upgrade on Lenovo Y700 laptop

Hi all,

After upgrading to 1809 from 1803 my laptop is stuck in boot loop. The boot sequence is now - Lenovo logo, blank screen, Lenovo logo (different resolution), blank screen, reboot.

Here's what I tried -

Windows 10 repair (created now from the new 1809 media tool):

• System restore - no restore points have been created.
• Startup Repair - did not work ("couldn't repair your PC"). Log file contains "Failure while setup is in progress".
• Uninstall updates - unable to uninstall feature update ("we ran into a problem"). Was able to uninstall quality update 3 times but I'm not sure it's doing anything (still not booting).
• chkdsk /r C: found no bad sectors.
• sfc /scannow /offbootdir /offwindir found some bad data, but looking at the log it looks like these are just temporary files.
• bootrec /fixmbr works but bootrec /fixboot prints "Access is denied" (I mounted the EFI partition and ran bcdboot but still got the same error).

Kyhi’s Rescue Disk:

• I see my data on the C / system partition, so it doesn't look like the whole disk is corrupted.
• I tried to enable safe mode by modifying the boot loader with EasyBCD to wait for my input on boot, but when I press F8 and choose safe mode the computer just reboots again.

Any suggestions on what else I can try before doing a clean install?

First thing I would do before I went any further is use Kyhi's recovery disk to safely copy all your data off machine. That would be my first task.

Yes, although the most recent version looks a little bit different. In the Windows 10 installation media there is an option to uninstall recent quality and feature updates (two options). In the Windows 10 recovery media there is an option to restore to previous build. Tried all that with no success.

Forgot to mention I tried that (same problem after restart).

Could you please elaborate on that? What parts of C: can I copy and later restore over the clean system? For example, I assume any software I had installed cannot be restored this way (but it would be great if it does work).

Not sure at what point your update broke down so this method may be a goose chase if your windows is corrupt.

I did see the update at 91%, so around that point or later.

Using kyhi boot rescue:
a) Open disk management > post an image into the thread
(before posting the image please make sure to widen two columns: Status and Volume
(for the Status column view each row and make sure in each row that the contents of the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the letters are cut off)

b) Open device manager > click view > click show hidden devices > manually expand all rows > look for any row displaying a yellow triangle with black exclamation mark or unknown device

c) Run the DM and BETA log collectors and post zips into this thread:

Once you have all files backed up you can perform a clean install.
Alternatively you can troubleshoot.
For example you could build a new boot sector and see if there is any improvement.

There are two hard drives, the first one is the M.2 SSD that came with the laptop. The 48 GB partition on the second drive is an unused Linux partition.
