    Windows windows!

I have a bit of a problem with Windows 10. I use two monitors, but I will sometimes turn one of the monitors off to stop it serving as a distraction. Unfortunately Windows realises the monitor is off and shifts all the content, including the Taskbar over to the other monitor. This is something I really don't want it to do. Is there any way to stop Windows doing this and accept the very unusual case of "the user knows best"? Or perhaps there is some utility that I can used to just blank off the other monitor for the duration.

The Taskbar, by default, is active on the monitor that is active, or is your Main monitor that you choose. If you don't have access to the Taskbar, you cannot control many of the aspects of Windows. You can Auto Hide the taskbar, if that helps you. Other then that, I would just drape a cloth over the secondary monitor when you don't want to view it.

Have you tried turning the monitor off by pulling the outlet out instead of pressing the on off button?

Well I understand why Windows moves stuff around but it would be really nice if it asked rather than just doing it. I mean it's a bit ridiculous that I have to resort to covering a monitor with a cloth :/ I thought there may be some way to put a monitor to sleep while the other is active, that would probably sort the problem but if there isn't, ah well...

You could turn the brightness down until some other method is found (if there is another).

Sounds like you are turning of the primary monitor. Maybe change things so you turn of the secondary monitor instead? That way the Taskbar will already be on that monitor.
