Finding which videos in a directory of various videos are H.265?

I have a directory of over a thousand mixed H.264 and H.265 mobile phone videos.

Is there a way I can filter them in Windows Explorers, so I can move them to H.264 and H.265 folders?

I've checked which columns I have available to me in Details view but none seem relevant.

There is one relevant column, but it's not in a simple readable form. You can however sort by that column to group the different types of encoding. It's the 'Video compression' column.

Using that and this website, it appears I have three types:

1. 5634504D-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71 (MPEG-4 Part 2)
2. 34363248-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71 (H.264)
3. Unspecified

I'll presume the Unspecified ones (there are dozens of them) are H.265.

I'm not sure what your 'unspecified' types may be. I specifically created an H.265 encoded file for my screenshot and it shows as compression type {43564548-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}

It appears I need a new way to differentiate them, beside the 'Video compression' column.

Is "Video Format" and "Codec" and "Compression type" the same thing?

But Dalchina's link says "A codec is a device or software that is used to compress or decompress a digital media file". So surely each 'codec' will be listed as a different 'compression type'? (or more accurately a family of compression types, as there are baseline settings that can be applied when encoding). A video file format such as .mp4 can contain a video stream encoded by one of many codecs.

Our @Kari is the expert on all things 'video'.....
