Whilst being a tech enthusiast any knowledge I have has been trial and error following tutorials and info taken from these forums over the years. I do not work in the IT industry and feel I ended up in this confused position due to the tech press running wild with half truths and misunderstood concepts. The online magazines and youtube is awash with misinformation which leaves "amateur computer enthusiasts" like myself wonder which way to turn. I think Microsoft could have been alot more vocal over telemetry and update issues to end the speculation before it ran out of control. I know they have made reading material available but it's confusing to the layman.
Even Microsoft did not know at first, what their Telemetry from 10, Office 365, Server 2k16 was going to pull in. They had to tweak it like all other companies. I would be more worried about those who develop software or apps and declare them as helpful, but are gathering info in the dark.

Sorry Guys! I was working late shift last night. Thanks for all your opinions, much appreciated. The way I now see it (thanks to your input) it's all or nothing you can't just trust parts of the OS by disabling one thing and allowing another. So moving forward I'll set up my own rig after much thought to trust Microsoft's vision of the OS and embrace the new cloud model. And try to realise that we are just not that important individually. All being well I'll give all my family and friends my thoughts and let them choose how they want their OS to function. And look at clean installing them all at the time of the April update.

    Best Regards
TechFan, unless the individual is having problems with Windows, why fix what ain't broke? There are many changes in Windows 10, and one of those is that for the most part, clean installs are no longer necessary unless there are real problems with the computer.

As an example, if someone is getting error after error and the update/upgrade doesn't fix it, a clean install may fix the issue. That is, if it isn't a hardware or third party software problem.

As an Insider, I used to clean install quite often, but having been convinced it's no longer necessary, each new Build is much easier on me, plus, I really don't notice any more problems than when I was clean installing.

And finally, clean installs aren't nearly as necessary for those who stick with the "public" releases, such as April and October Updates.
