    get rid of it

That area, where I typed "get rid of it", is supposed to be for a Group Name.

I don't want it, not there anyway; I need the space now.

How can I get rid of it?

It wasn't there to start with.

I put there somehow by mistake.

What do you see if you rt click on different parts of it? Do you see an unpin option? (Compare that with what you see when doing that on other tiles).

Otherwise, try a system restore point.

That shows when you click on the dash to the right. It goes away (for me at least) when I click away from it.

    get rid of it-start1.jpg

Clicked dash to open search box
    get rid of it-start2.jpg

Clicked away from box to make it go away.

Well well -that's a feature for naming tile groups I didn't know about- maybe 'cos I don't use Win 10's start menu routinely.

When that box is not there you have to mouse over the top rt corner (or rt corner of any row above a possible group of tiles) for the = to appear. Click on that and the box (for naming groups) appears. Click on a blank part of the start menu to remove it.

It's covered (sort of) here (I guess the images are from an older build as it now looks a bit clearer)

If you do not like the way the Start menu is, you can create your own using xml or use Start10. That search bar is a part of Cortona.

    Hello Don,

As Rich posted above, you must have clicked on that bar to rename it. This is for the name of that group of apps on Start.

If needed, you can resize the Start menu to make it smaller or larger as needed.

I think the OP wants to get rid of the name header altogether and utilize the space it's taking.

All they have to do is hit the double bar that pops up and delete or rename it.

The space remains whether you name it or not...
