    W 10 Home changing its power/sleep

My system is running W10 Home X64 ver 1803 updated. Power set at High Performance, Sleep at Never. After some time at idle, maybe an hour or two, it switches to Power Saver, Sleep After 1 minute on its own.

    System: 8700K, relidded, on Maximus X Hero-WiFi , EVGA 1080ti FTW3 or Asus 2080ti 011G, Tridentz 2x8GB 4266 set at 4000, Samsung 961 500GB NVMe, Acer ET322QK 4K via HDMI through a 5-input electronic switcher. The idle temp is about 40C, power about 41w. Mutiplier is X51, Vcore 1.35v. No BSOD's, passes stress tests.

An X299 system running the same version W10, with one of the same GPU's, through the same switcher, doesn't do this.

Try to make own Power plan and look deeper in Advanced power settings, a lot's more in there.

Sounds like your motherboard is changing it to save power, due to possible damage to one of the sensors, or the bios is changing the power mode. Overclocking can cause the hardware to trigger Power Save, due to not enough power from the PSU, which can cause the voltage to lower and trigger that mode.

The Maximus X Hero is an ASUS ROG motherboard. Those motherboards come with ASUS' AI Suite tool for overclocking, fan control, and so on. Unfortunately, AI Suite will secretly change your power plan based on the AI Suite profile you have set. This can happen whenever the computer boots or wakes from sleep. You can see it happening in the Event Viewer. (I think the event will reference part of AI Suite called DipAwayMode.)

If that's what is happening to you, try to disable AI Suite and control your rig entirely through the BIOS if you can. If not, there are third-party tools to support overclocking and fan control. If you must have AI Suite, you can use Task Scheduler to create a task that will run on boot or wakeup and reset the power plan after AI Suite has changed it.

Thanks for replies. Don't think it is the PS as it is a new Seasonic Ultra Titanium 850w, but I'll check everything mentioned.

Never mentioned anything about the PSU (Power Supply Unit). PS = Power Save.

I've had this happen on a Lenovo Yoga as well.

    Sorry, I meant PSU.

Checking HWMonitor, I see a spike in Package Temp from average 37 deg to 52-56 deg once or twice a minute, Package Power spikes with it from 37w average to 40-45w. At the same time, Vcore dips .016 v and stays there awhile. PSaver is not triggered by these, but I think some spikes are larger, so am waiting for a shift.

Am now seeing spikes as high as 66 deg/74w with dip of .032v while exercising Edge.

Eksy61, I don't have AI Suite installed. I moved this boot drive from an Aurora R7, at which time I removed Alienware's system manager. I may need to do a clean install.
