    New Motherboard/RAM/Processor, Windows 10 won't boot up

    Hello,

I wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it here. I installed a new mobo, processor, and RAM into my computer today. When I booted it up, all seemed to be going well, until my computer got stuck on the "Getting Devices Ready" screen, and the Windows 10 logo froze. After a bit, I restarted my computer, but all that happens is I see the motherboard screen go up, the Windows 10 logo spins for a bit, and then it disappears and the screen freezes. It's still on, but frozen. My cursor appeared too but it as well froze. I can boot up my computer in Safe Mode though, so I'm hoping there's a solution doing that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Try booting into safe mode with networking so Windows Update can download new drivers.

Your new and old system specs may help a lot too.

    Intel Core i7-8700K LGA1151 300 Series

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 Graphic Cards

You can try installing the chipset driver for the new Mobo/CPU from Safe Mode. That's the most likely cause of the problem.

    Hi there
with new Mobo check that boot mode is EFI or BIOS - and then ensure your boot device is similarly configured - if EFI the boot disk needs an efi partition.

I'd test these by disconnecting everything except keyboard , mouse and monitor plus have the RAM in -- now boot into bios-- this will test that the MOBO boots (even though there's no OS yet).

Now boot up an external device -- just say a USB Windows install stick or a Linux live distro --or even a Macrium restore disk (or USB drive). You don't have to do anything with these devices - all you are doing is to see if the MOBO boots a smalll OS that's contained on these devices.

Now connect the HDD's / SSD's and if Windows won't boot then there's a problem with your windows install.

Ensure of course all HDD's and other components are properly connected to the mobo. A loose connection can cause the system to be non bootable even if it's not the boot device that has the bad connection.

With a new Mobo I'd do a new install as a matter of course but that's up to you. Also check drivers if any that came with mobo are installed.

    Cheers

I just assembled a system with a MSI Z390 Gaming Plus, and have a similar system. Motherboard and ram have been replaced. The CPU is a i9-9900, and the system reboots rather than hangs, but it cannot complete Win 10 installation no matter what I do. Would love to what Dean discovered.
