    W10 update 12/01/19 locks PC

After being pestered for a few days to update my W10-Home I eventually gave it the OK yesterday afternoon (Sat 12 Jan 2019).
After many re-starts during the update and about 5-hours I was left with just the W10 splash screen and NO icons/short cuts or mouse indicator on the desk top.

    Reluctantly I powered 'OFF'.

This morning when trying to start the PC I can only get as far as the 'Chillblast' opening screen then nothing!

I have tried starting in Safe Mode - F8 and see the following...

    Select Boot Device:
    UEFI: IP4 Intel (R) Ethernet Connection (H) 1219-v
    UEFI: IP6 -------------------do-------------------------------
Windows Boot Manager (SATA6G_1:Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB)
    Enter Setup

Selecting Windows Boot Manager - the following...

    >>Checking Media Presence
    >>Media Present
    >>Start PXE over IPv6

After some time I have (again) the W10 splash screen with no short cuts and no mouse indicator!

    Any advice welcomed...

Hi Ken. Welcome to the TenForums @skyways1142

First I would check and shut off the Intel PXE option Rom in your BIOS. Think it is part of your Onboard Devices.

Don't believe you need booting over Lan, do you?

I would also start using Macrium Reflect or some other Imaging tool to restore out of these situation.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

    Hi Ken!
I already use Macrium Reflect but my real issue is not being able to make the PC run/open to check if a backup/restore is required.
All I have is the W10 splash-screen (lady running across a beach) but NO short-cuts and NO mouse indicator.

Have been into the BIOS to ensure the boot procedure is from the 'C' Samsung SSD - it is - just won't play ball!

Do you have a Disc with Win10 installation there? You can try to restore your Windows with it.

If you run Macrium boot from your rescue and restore. Did you shut off PXE Rom in Bios?

Guys, I am currently devouring gross quantities of HUMBLE PIE

Downloaded the Media repair tool ~~~ did all the necessaries as per instructions ~~~ after selecting the USB that held the repair item...

nothing - just the W10 Splash Screen ...

Had a thought...I run 2xPC (not networked) but linked with a KVM switch ~~~ decided to try the W10 machine directly and disconnected the KVM...

W10 was/is there in all its glory and with all the short cuts and all are functioning correctly!!!

Made a call to Chillblast who built the system and reported the above. They suggest that with the October1809- update (not just the security patch as I believed) the driver for the Belkin KVM switch has not been updated to run with the nVidia graphics card (sounds reasonable to me now).

I do feel a bit stupid (at my age I am allowed some leeway) but humongously grateful that the potential reinstallation of everything has now been avoided.

Bit cumbersome to be connecting/disconnecting the KVM when I want to run each of the PCs independantly. Need to contact Belkin or nVidia to see if they have a driver that works with W10v1809...
