Transferring photo from Moto E5 Play phone to computer question

I just bought my first smartphone, a Moto E5 Play and am just trying to learn about how to use it. I have watched some videos from Consumer Cellular, but I can't find any instructions on how to transfer a photo from my phone to my home computer. I've only done that with a camera, and have always just inserted the SD card.

Can the USB cable that comes with the phone for charging be used to connect the phone to my computer?

Does the camera have to be on the photo gallery page before doing the transfer?

Will my Windows 10 home computer recognize the phone, or is there something I need to do beforehand?

Thanks for any guidance, I don't know very much about computers or smartphones.

In general terms you connect it via the usb charging cable windows should see it and give you access. Some phones have a setting to connect as usb device or other. The phone may ask for permissio for the computer to access it so keep your eye on it

I just did it successfully, I had to change the setting on the phone for USB, not to charge but to transfer files. Everything was easy and quick....thanks again!

In the insider 18312 build, the Phone app actually works and I've synced my phone to my laptop. Now my pictures on my phone are available on my laptop as are my text messages, which I can also send and receive from my laptop. Very nice app. The first one I've found that I actually like and find useful. It will be in the spring 19H1 release.

I just purchased this phone and read the manual but it shows nothing to transfer photos. I read your post about doing this. I plugged my USB to the front, (slow ports), and my laptop did not see new device.
I noted you changed your phone to make the transfer, what was it you changed on the phone to allow the transfer?
Should I use the rear faster USB ports to transfer?

On my Moto, I drag down from the top of the screen which gives me additional options, one of which is Transfer photos (or something like that, don't have it connected right now). When you select that, your PC then sees the phone, not before.
