1809 Pro upgrade, edges cut off of desktop

Last night I upgraded my Dell OptiPlex 7040 SFF (630 integrated graphics) from 1803 Pro to 1809 Pro. The upgrade proceeded normally, but when it was complete, the edges were 'cut off' (overscanned) from the desktop. The graphics driver was already the latest, so upgrading was not an option.

Ultimately, I determined that deleting the device and the driver software corrected the issue, because Device Manager fell back on an older version of the driver. Afterwards, Windows Update tried to push a faulty driver, but I discovered I could 'hide' it so that it wouldn't be automatically installed.

Does anyone know if Dell or Intel plan to make available a new 1809-compatible driver for 630 graphics? I was lucky that this old version worked, otherwise I would have had to have rolled back 1809.

I like to use Intel's Drive and Support Assistant to check for the latest Intel Graphics hardware drivers and software:

This Dell has customized 630 graphics, and that does not appear to be an option.

My system is a Dell XPS 8920, bought late 2017, and came with Intel HD Graphics onboard, plus another graphics card installed. I am currently using displays from both graphics adapters, and this screen grab shows the Intel generic driver I replaced Dell's customized one with. It works fine for me on v1809 ...

Before I installed the current Intel driver, Windows Update kept trying to install an older one. From my experience with Dell and their drivers, I would not hold my breath waiting for them to update a customized graphics driver.

Intel won't let me install their generic driver on my Dell.

You may have to uninstall the current driver, or uninstall the device in Device Manager and allow Windows to detect it again, in order to install a new driver. I have received the Intel message to the effect that "your system has an OEM-customized driver installed, etc." in the past. Did you use the Intel Driver and Support Assistant, or find a generic driver another way? Did Intel give a reason for refusing the installation?

I downloaded the latest driver from Intel's site. The upgrade utility only lists a RST as being available.

Is this the driver you downloaded from Intel?

    Attachment 221026

This driver is working o.k. on my XPS system's integrated 630 graphics with 1809 installed. Other things you might investigate would be to ensure you have all the latest 1809 updates installed; check the graphics adapter resolution and settings to be sure they are compatible with your display; also it could be beneficial to run 'sfc /scannow' in an elevated command prompt to check for any system file corruption.

That's one of them (the first one I downloaded) and it would not install the first time. I downloaded it again and it successfully installed, but it had the same problem as the other newer drivers (overscan).

Fortunately, it uninstalled. I hope it hasn't destabilized my install.

I wonder what the heck is up with these drivers that they don't work with 1809?

What model display are you using? Have you tried the display's own controls to reset defaults?
