How to remove "Run DLL" ?

I scrapped an old HP Envy printer recently but just can't get rid of a left over pop up when I first log on saying "Run DLL".

    Anyone know ?

    Thanks

Did you remove the device from the "Devices and Printers" list?

Go into "Settings" click on "Devices" and see if the device is listed. If it is listed, click on it and then click "Remove".

See if the "pop up" is still a problem.

Yes it is. The icon went a week or two ago at the same time as I disconnected HP Envy....

When the "pop up" occurs again, leave it and right click an area of the task bar and bring up the task manager. In the task manager, see if the "Run DLL" (pop up box) is listed and right click on it in the task manager.

It should give you a location of the problematic file by way of properties from the right click on it and once you have the location of the problematic file, navigate to it and delete it.

In order for it to show up in task manager, you have to restart the computer and let the "pop up" remain on the desktop while you open the task manager. While in the task manager, make sure you have the processes tab expanded:

If the "pop up" box isn't being displayed in the processes tab of task manager; then the computer has a phantom pain of believing you have a stack call process trying to reinstall a printer that is not hooked up to the system anymore and you should look in device manager for any yellow triangles showing up in your print queues.

Sometimes, the only way to get rid of RunDll errors, is to reinstall the device and then uninstall the device before just unplugging it from the computer.

Your computer is searching for a DLL file related to the printers installation and when you scrapped the printer as you said, I got this odd feeling that you didn't uninstall the software for the printer before unhooking it from your system.

That can cause the pop up error you're getting and sometimes you have to reinstall the software and device and then uninstall it properly to get rid of .DLL errors.

    EDIT:

I just saw your edit and was wondering if you can navigate to C:\Program Files\HP\ HP ENVY 4500 series\bin\HPStatusBL.dll

If you can, and that is the only file location that is popping up in the RunDLL. errors, then it is safe to delete it.

Just the "HPStatusBL.dll" part is safe to delete at this point.

I had the same problem with a HP Printer a couple of years ago, and I had to delete a .DLL file - and man it was hard to find because the pop up would disappear as instantaneously as it would show up and the file path was long.

I think I only had to restart the computer about eighty times until I was able to copy the full path - that is when I learned about the print screen feature the hard way. LoL!

Just do a search query for "HPStatusBL.dll" - not the full path then.
