How To Make A Bullet Point W/O Numeric Keypad?

I looked here but perhaps it is still to early in the morning for me to comprehend what I am reading:

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+do+you...146-6__&ia=web

I am used to a keypad and all I needed to do was to hold down the alt key and hit 0149 and presto a bullet point would appear at the end of my renamed folder. New computer does not have a keypad.

When I went to hold down the alt key and highlighted the folder that I wanted to rename and held down the alt key and then started and hit the 0 the computer beeped at me; the nerve.

I really know nothing about the function keys since I have never used them before. Right now the upper left top key that says ESC FnLock is lit up. If I just start hitting the key row below that say 1 or 2 or 3 they show up in a document or here for example as I write this.

I know that if I hold down the Fn key and depress the sound - key the third one from the left on the top that has F2 underneath the sound - character I can adjust the sound lower.

I thought that if I held down the Fn key and the alt key at the same time and tried to insert a bullet point at the end of the folder that I am trying to rename by then typing 0149 that would work but uh uh. And as an aside I just realized I no longer have my trusty Num Lock key : (

So just to summarize. I highlight a folder that I want to rename and position the cursor at the end of that folder where I want to insert the bullet point.

    Help for dummies requested. TIA.

    Use the On-Screen Keyboard, (OSK)...

    • ensure NumLock is on,
    • Alt+7 is also a bullet...

Never knew abut that b4 but I have no idea how to use it : ) The OSK pic that you show does not look like mine. My physical keyboard has no num lock key (that I can see) nor does my OSK one have a num lock key. When I try to highlight and rename the folder with a bullet point at the end and bring up the OSK and hit alt + 7 I get nothing. The second pic is what my physical KB looks like. Do you know of any other way of doing this? Also I would think that even if I do not have a num lock key on my keyboard something must have taken it's place. Would you happen to know what that is? TIA.

    @Edwin

OK. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the OSK. A little sleuthing on my part indicated that in order to turn on the num lock key for the OSK I had to first click on the options key and and enable the num lock key for the OSK. After that it worked as advertised. Thanks again.

A problem exists when using a Notebook without the extra 10-key pad. Usually one needs to use the Fn key + the NumLock key or some of the Letter keys that turn them into the pad, usually marked with same color as on the Fn key.
    Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately as mentioned this keyboard does not have a Num key. As shown in the pic above all the keys on my keyboard are black including the FN key. I suppose I could dig deeper and see if there is some sort of other key combo but for the time being the OSK trick works and also I copied and pasted bullet points that I got from a GOOGLE search to an empty folder so I am also able to use that if I am too lazy to invoke the OSK.

Something I've used for years and worth mentioning is this mouse friendly Windows Accessory called:

    'Character Map'.

It has all the special characters, and can be pinned to the start menu or taskbar.

Thanks for replying. Thought I would save some real estate and "ink" and not quote the pics. Yeah, I came across the Character Map while searching for a solution and a quick cursory look and these old eyes could not readily locate the bullet point symbol and if there was a search function within the character map by then I had already grown impatient. However looking at your scrolling window on the right I was quickly able to find it : ) Thanks for another solution.
