Windows 10 shuts down after restarting for 'Advanced Settings'

I've just reinstalled Windows 10 x64 1809 today and tried opening the 'Startup Settings' menu by going to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Advanced Startup (Restart Now) and then choosing the 'Startup Settings' option. This restarted my PC, but sadly, instead of booting into Windows, the PC just shut down and didn't even show me the BIOS splash screen (the latter may have happened because of fast boot or something). I'd appreciate some help :).

Hi, might be a problem with your Recovery partition or disk.

Please post a screenshot of you partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard (free).
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post. Thanks.

Please check your disk using free HD Tune (Health and Error scan tabs).

    Background-
why did you reinstall Win 10? What sort of problems were you experiencing?

What sort of disk do you have? (Technology, size).

Please confirm that when you did the clean install you deleted ALL existing Windows partitions (e.g. for a UEFI installation, Windows, EFI, 16Mbit system, Recovery).

    Hi there,

I've attached photos of the partitions shown in MiniTool and the diagnostics you mentioned from HDTune at the bottom of this post. HDTune shows no errors on both tabs you mentioned.

Regarding the partitions, the only partition I removed was the 16MB Sytem Reserved partition. Other than that, the recovery partition (the first one) was left intact (I didn't even format it). The Windows installation partition (C:) has been resized since the previous Windows was installed, but I only formatted it for the reinstallation and did not recreate it. The EFI partition, however, was heavily modified since I installed my previous Windows (for example, it was resized as it now has > 200MB and it initially had only 100MB) ; more details on the modifications as well as the reason I reinstalled windows can be found in one of my previous threads: Can't boot Windows 10 after messing reserved installation partitions - Windows 10 Forums

Also, I'm a bit confused about the last partition (the 10MB one). Do you think that one was created by Windows? Is it important to Windows?

    Thank you very much.

    Please see step 13:
Clean Install Windows 10 | Tutorials

(Actually that as written does not allow for there being data partitions on the same disk, for example, which of course need not be deleted- or partitions related to another OS if dual booting).

And confirm that when you 'reinstalled' Windows you booted your PC from an installation medium and did not log in to Windows and then run setup.exe.

As you say you did not follow step 13 and did not delete your other Windows partitions, I'm wondering if you actually did an in-place upgrade repair install or upgrade of Windows rather than a clean install which is what you seem to indicate in your first post.

I really wish I had known about that guide before I reinstalled..

I did boot from an installation medium (USB) and yes, it was a clean install (I formatted the previous Windows partition (C:) and installed on it).

So, do you think the solution could be for me to properly do a clean reinstallation? I'd be willing to try since this problem and also this are really annoying...

The most sensible thing would be to do that, making sure you delete all applicable partitions related to your Windows installation.

Note- if you wish to examine any unlabelled partitions such as the one you mentioned, you can using Minitool Partition Wizard.

Note- a clean install is to unallocated space, as the tutorial says.

Thank you very much! I remember that Ubuntu's gparted had a 'msres' (or something like that) flag option, is this what Windows uses for its system reserved partition?

It's funny that I installed Windows 10 a lot of times (probably tens of times).. Usually, I'd remove the 500MB Recovery partition, but this time I did not..

Thanks a lot for all your help! :) I'll try to come back with an update after I reinstall.. probably after Monday.
