battery power icon suddenly does not appear

I have a Lenovo T560 laptop, which has a built-in battery and a removable battery. Yesterday the battery icon displayed normally. Today it is gone.

I did the normal searching and followed the instructions for displaying icons in the Notification Area of the Taskbar. Notice that the Power icon is ON but greyed out.

I checked Device Manager, and both batteries seem to be OK.

So what gives here? Most of my system issues, I can resolve with a Google search. This one I can't.

Before investigating any other possible causes, click Start and select Restart on the power button (not Shut down). It has to be Restart to ensure a full boot up from cold.

    Hey Bree,

That cold restart worked. Thanks a bunch.

I thought it might. A Restart can cure a lot of the odd 'quirks' that can sometimes develop.

And I just want to add that I just had to reboot my laptop again, and the battery power icon is still there in the Notification Area.
