    Please provide more details about what you are getting read-only for, and what happens when you try to turn off read-only.

    Sean – I unchecked the box but the next time I check properties in a word document read only Is always checked And I can’t write anything. Herm

    Since this is for a Word document file, you might see if this below will remove read-only.

    Thank you but I have no trouble with existing documents butwith all new documents. My research shows thatthis is a common and known problem. Herm

    This is not a Known problem.
    You are very sparse with sharing the details of what your problem is, so we can only offer simplistic answers.
    We now know Read Only is in Word Documents. Are these Word documents that You created? or were they Emailed to you? Or did you download them? Which version of Microsoft Office do you have? (ie) 2007. '10, 365 etc?
    Have you tried copying the new Read Only Word Document and saving it to a USB Flash drive and try editing on another computer?
    If you have downloaded a Word document that cannot be edited, the creator of the document may have locked it to keep people from Editing it.
