What Windows 10 x64 Home version is the newest one should use?

Ah, great, that's the one I just installed on my new Win installation. MR created a bootable ISO on C: and a bootable USB-Stick. So I will do an image with it as well.
To me owning an external drive and using Macrium monthly is like having insurance. You hope to never have to use it but it is there if you need it. The best part is after the inital cost of a hard drive all it costs is a bit of your time.

Alright, so I will stop clicking the "check for updates" button....
Good to hear you have installed Macrium.

Actually it's relatively safe to click 'check for updates'. As I said, only a few are currently getting the 'Features update to Windows 10, version 1809' that way. Microsoft employ machine learning to decide who will see 1809 when they check for updates. If/when you do eventually see 1809 it will be because MS believe, based on telemetry from others with the same hardware, that you will have a trouble-free upgrade.

Okay, so there just is no need to not to click the update button. And there is nothing useful one could do to prevent getting such a buggy update. And may be no need, because it is so unlikely. Just bad luck. Making an image is all one can do, I guess.

    Very many thanks!

Absolutely agreeable especially for the average user.
Myself I don't check for updates although I ensure Update History is in order.
--- I just let the computer let me know when it's ready to install the latest updates.
Then I set a time when it can do so in order for me to continue using my computer for the rest of the day.

Naturally keep current Macrium Reflect system image backups handy.
