Possible to run computer on AC, without charging battery?

    Hello!
Does anyone know if it is possible to somehow let the computer (Acer Swift 3) stay connected to AC, but without constantly having to charge the battery fully up to 100% ? Does windows 10 have some options in this matter?

    Thanx!
    BRG/ Örjan.

Just remove the battery and use the AC lead.

Laptops and mobile devices use the battery as a way of keeping power fluxuations down as a UPS does.

The charging circuit in the battery will not charge when it reaches the set standard by the mfg of the battery. The battery works as the same as a UPS does, by keeping power fluxuations down.

    Cant remove battery from computer...

Seems there is no solution to this, its a bit sad to be forced to waste the lifespan of the battery when im working at home and could work on AC instead. But since I don't want to let the battery be forced to stay up at 100% charge level (reduces total number of charging cycles) when on AC, I have to shut down AC and let the computer go on battery until its time to charge again.

But anyway, when the battery eventually is exhausted and can take no more charging cycles, THEN I can let the computer stay on AC when working at home..!

The battery only charges when it needs to. It is as I stated before, used as a built in UPS, to help with any incoming power issues from loss and dirty power. You can unplug and run down if you wish or just let it self cycle as the built in power charging circuit already does.

Are you sure? When my computer has charged the battery to 100% and I let the AC stay on, the computer will keep the battery being constantly and fully charged at 100 %- level, as long as the AC is plugged in. That's not healthy to the battery, hence my question...

Yes. It has been the case since LiON, that the charging circuit will exercise the battery, so that it will run at peak performance. I would suggest unhooking from power every now and then, so that the battery can run down some, but not all of the way. The more you take the battery offline and run it down, the less reserve that it will have over time, which can take up to 24 to 36 months of normal use on battery power, to see a substantial decrease in storage percentage.

I have an old (2008) HP/Compaq laptop with a removable battery pack. (Still lithium ion.)

Works just fine with the battery out and the AC adapter in.

    Your mileage may vary.

This is not of great interest if the battery is internal. As far as I know, there is no way to disable the charging circuitry from Windows.

    Thinkpad is one exception.
