DUal monitor / close lid / desktop moves

    Hello

    Notebook with external monitor.
Active Desktop is on embedded monitor.
Close lid, desktop jumpes to external monitor. How to stop that bad behavior?

Power Options: When I close the lid: Do Nothing.
That's a blatant lie. It does something. I moves the desktop to the external monitor, which is not helpful.

It's not a lie. These are power options, which control whether the laptop will sleep or not upon lid closure.

So in this case "do nothing" upon closing the lid means that the laptop will not sleep when you close the lid.

Are there another settings regarding to close the lid?

Closing the lid turns the internal monitor off. Its by design. There is a mechanical or magnetic switch that turns it off. Its essentially the same as unplugging it. Thats why the desktop moves to the other active monitor. Thats the way its supposed to work. Does the desktop move back when you open it again?

I suppose you could do a little surgery to disable that lid-closed sensor switch.

The solution is to replace the driver for ACPI lid to volume manager. Now it really does nothing when close the lid. The screen still goes off / black, which is good. But the desktop stays on the embedded monitor.

I remember now, I did exactly the same solution Years ago with Windows 7.

Windows OS in general is kinda weird when it comes to the holy desktop. If you not want show the desktop by shaking the mouse, you have to edit the registry. Who in the world lets show the desktop by shaking the mouse?

The, right click on windows logo and the first function is Desktop. Now I have to figure out how to disable that.

Windows 10 is a PITA unless you disable tons of annoying functions.

Do we really need hundreds of ways to show desktop? BUT, I need a 3rd party tool if I wish to show the desktop on only one particular monitor?
