What is this Hidden File on my External USB Drive?

Although I can see other hidden files on this drive such as $RECYCLE.BIN, I have a file that does not appear in Windows Explorer. Using "USB Safely Remove" the following Process is displayed as preventing safe removal of this drive:

    System
    i:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\$TxfLog.blf
    i:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\$TxfLogContainer0000000000000002
    i:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\$TxfLogContainer0000000000000001
    i:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$Txf:$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION

    Any info is GREATLY appreciated

    Tom

Did you popped that lately into your TV (USB port), it could be a remenecent (or how do you spell that?) of that and you can delete that without troubles.

This drive has only been plugged into computers - nothing else. The app that allows me to see this process is designed to stop it from running, but not to delete it. It is not visible in Win Explorer.

This app will show everything regardless of attributes. And allow the delete function. Only thing that could stop the delete would be a permission issue. It's free, well known here on TF, and generally very useful. Just install it, run it on the drive letter of the USB thumb, and see what you get. Make sure you set it up to Run as Administrator.

This prog only shows files doesn't it? It's a PROCESS that's causing the problem.

You said you could not see them in Explorer. Explorer displays files and folders. Taskmanager displays processes. Maybe I misunderstood what it is you cannot see and where.

Did you do a search with google, yahoo, dogpile, etc first?

    What is a BLF file?

Files that contain the .blf file extension are most commonly associated with the Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. BLF files are used to prevent the Windows registry from becoming corrupt.

When a user makes changes to the settings of their operating system, the system's BLF file is modified. This allows the user to perform a system recovery if something goes wrong, restoring the hard drive to its prior state.

The BancTec software also uses the .blf file suffix. These files contain the scanner driver files that are used by the application.

The BIAlite software has also been known to use the .blf file extension. These BLF files are project files that have been created by the BIAlite application.

    @EdMcCauley

Do you run an app called Everything.exe from VoidTools? See the third post in this thread, which lists exactly the same locked files as in your OP.

Ugh that could have been my problem too at one time. Everything was installed with service/process running on auto. Now it's installed without that option and no more problems with USBs.
