The only way I set the Flash hardware acceleration is by right clicking on the movie and in the settings box that comes up, click the tab for the video and you'll see a check box setting for it. Uncheck it. Close the box. Make sure your browser is not auto deleting the flash cookie or the setting will not stick. Then restart the browser, clear only the cache. Go back to where you were trying to watch the movie, and it should now play, if that was the problem.

There is one other thing you can try. There are programs like Riva Tuner, which is free. It's a video card tuning program that will let you set all the acceleration settings, as well as, your colors and stuff. Just make a system restore backup before trying it. It's a great program, I've used it for stuff. You can get it off Guru3D.com They may also have other utilities you can try. That site is a goldmine of video things.

I downloaded K lite but honestly I have no clue what I'm doing with it. I've reinstalled flash and that did not help. As far as Divx & Vlan goes I don't see where those are installed on my machine. I also can't find where to turn off the hardware acceleration in flash, the settings manager I get to come up doesn't have that option.

I can't share the videos because they are primarily videos that are restricted to a select audience on FB (family videos mostly).

I tweaked some settings on my browsers and the videos seem to be playing now. I have no clue why what I changed worked but it did so they will now play in IE, Edge & Chrome browsers.

I didn't see this post before I replied above, now that you mention it it *could* be a cookie issue. When I installed Windows 10 I disabled a lot of 3rd party cookies. Like I said the in the post above I tweaked some settings on the browsers and they are working now.

Well, I spoke too soon. The videos played but then when I closed the browsers they won't play when I go back to them.

Ok, I've made progress..... It seems the files I'm having issues with are MP4's shared via FB. I was able to download one of the videos and got it to run using all the video players I have installed except Windows Media Player, which after some research I find that it doesn't support MP4's without some codec changes.

So, I guess that for me this is solved. If I want to see videos my family and friends post as MP4's then I'll have to download them to the hard drive or view them on my phone.

I just updated Flash and Divx and found I had black screen Youtube videos and the same with Divx movies. Did alittle digging and figured out I had the codec for Open H264 disabled in Firefox and that was the problem. Hope this helps someone else. Sometimes, we create our own bugs. I had disabled that codec because I thought it was something I didn't need.

I've read that many have found using the VLC Player resolves these issues for them. You can try it to see if it works for you ... http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
Since when did VLC support playing from the Chrome browser.

It doesn't, apparently media play or some other player besides quick time is the default in Chrome. I haven't found a place to change it, if I do I'll post the work around here.

Ok, my problem is fixed, at least with FB & Chrome. I found out that under the Chrome advanced settings there is (at least on my version of Chrome) an enable hardware acceleration option. Once I disabled this my videos are playing with no problem.

Solution, I have to watch you tube on my windows vista laptop. It plays videos perfectly. Conclusion, I think this bug was inserted when they built adobe flash player into the browsers. I can get it to work using the old plug-in method. Microsoft and google needs to rewrite the browser software so adobe flash player will work with slower computers that suffer video crap out.
