    Default Folder View

I want to Set a default Folder View for all folders.

    I get the instruction:
    1. Open File Explorer by using key combination Windows Key + E and navigate to the folder you want to use as a source for view layout setting.

    Where is that folder?

I don't care if they are General Items, Documents, Pictures, Music or Videos.

I want than all to be the same, Details View.

You can apply single folder view to all the folders by opening folder you want and click View tab from there click Options --> View --> Apply to Folders button.

To preserve the View option e.g. small icons do this
    1. Open the top folder in the tree for which you want to apply common settings and configure the view you want
    2. From the ribbon button Options, select Change folder and search options
    3. The Folder Options window appears. Select the View tab then Apply to all folder button then Yes

    Don,

That just means pick any folder. You can choose which one.

I would suggest one within C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents
but it is up to you.

The 'Apply to folders' option works on a per-foldertype basis, meaning that when you have set it once for each of the various basic types: Generic, Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video. But there are many types not affected: Search Results, Libraries, etc. If you want to set a default view to cover these instances, I've written a PowerShell script that does so. Download the file linked to below. Open in Notepad or other text editor and edit the backup path and view mode as indicated in the file. Then copy & paste the whole thing into a PowerShell window, press Enter, when the prompt returns, close PowerShell and log off and back on.

@doncole You can set a global default view with this tool:

    This is Epic! Thanks KeithM.

Is there a way to add a sort order?

For reasons best know to myself, I prefer to view things in list view, with a default sort order of filetype.

I must waste literally hours of my life constantly changing the view and sort order of folders.
