My PC won't boot and recovery options are failing. It appears i need to rebuild my system partition but i'd like some guidance as i'm not sure what i'm doing...

Why is it when I try to install Win 10 from a boot USB onto an old desktop which currently runs XP SP3, I get an error "NTLDR is missing" ? (Yes, I set the boot order to USB first). :(
The target machine has an ALiveNF6G-DVI mobo with legacy BIOS...
It was there - options for booting into Win7 or Technical Preview. The 'time to display....' is set at 30 seconds but only Win7 is showing. Any thoughts appreciated - regards.
