    Phantom Log?

When I save a .log file on the desktop it doesn't show up there. I do a search from Windows Explorer and find the log. The properties indicate it is, in fact, in the desktop folder, however there is no sign of it in that folder, or on the
Desktop itself. The only way to find the .log file is to do the search! This only happens with log files. Anyone make sense of this?...Thanks

Just a wild guess. See if you have "show hidden files" checked. Windows may hide .log files as being a system type file. I always have them to show. Just guessing, without testing.

See this link about how to use the Where command in Powershell or cmd.exe. Where - locate files - Windows CMD - SS64.com It will give you the directory location of *.log files.

I am not tech savvy enough to understand the link you sent. But I do know that these files are not hidden. Why would these log files not show up where they are designated?

The where command will show you those files that you are looking for. You open a Cmd.exe window as administrator and just enter "where *.log".

Doesn't show the pop3.log that is supposed to be on my desktop. Like I say: it IS listed by doing a windows search of the "C" Drive.

If you do the Where command in cmd.exe, it will show all files with the .log extension and their folder locations. Nothing like logs are kept on the desktop, but can be hidden in the desktop folder.

If you have OneDrive enabled and the Protected Access is set, those files may actually be in the Desktop Folder under OneDrive. I could not find some files at one time, and discovered MS had redirected them to the Desktop in OneDrive, not the main one. If you have OneDrive enabled, check these settings, and look in the OneDrive>Desktop Folder. You can turn it off.
